The Middle Leader – Health and Physical Education supports the Principal and staff in ensuring high expectations for the well-being, engagement, learning progress and achievement of each student, and the delivery of rigorous curriculum in Health and Physical Education. The role holder enhances teacher capacity and effectiveness by modelling high quality teaching and learning, professional learning, collaboration and cooperation. Effective and expected practices are embedded through the implementation of carefully planned, sequenced and resourced curriculum. Additionally, the Middle Leader – Health and Physical Education drives the planning, design and implementation of physical wellbeing opportunities for students in partnership with the Pastoral Team and Sports Leader. This is a Tier 2 position.

Mt Maria College is a co-educational Catholic secondary school, founded in the Marist traditions. The school is in Mitchelton, Queensland, a suburb of Brisbane, and serves students in Years 7-12.

The school was founded in 1987 and currently has 340 students. They pride themselves on having a small learning environment which creates more individualised and personal support to students from caring staff, as well as their modern facilities and expansive vocational training centre.

The school offers modern facilities, including dedicated centres for visual arts, design and technology, science, food technology and hospitality kitchens, and a music and drama centre. The school also offers a career centre and large library, as well as sporting areas for basketball, volleyball, and netball. 

Technology is important to both staff ad students, with laptops provided for students in Years 9-12, and all students having access to laptops and iPads through the technology centre. 

Curriculum

The school’s curriculum is based on key learning areas, which are religious education, English, mathematics, science, social science, health, business information technology, visual and performing arts, technology, and vocational training. A wide range of vocational qualifications are available, including engineering pathways, hospitality, digital media, and sport and recreation.

Popular extra-curricular activities include drama and instrumental music, as well as sports, which include swimming, cross country, rugby, basketball, tennis, and cricket.
