The High Weald Academy is a highly aspirational academy that serves our local rural community. High expectations and a balanced approach to support and challenge enable our students and staff to succeed and achieve. The academy community is future focused but holds fast to traditional values and takes pride in the achievements it makes whether these be in the exam hall, on the sports field, in the creative arts or down on the farm. The High Weald Academy is rightly proud of the hard work and determination that saw GCSE results improve substantially over the first three years of opening from 34% to 66% A*-C including English and maths.
The High Weald Academy invites all students and staff to belong to one of three Houses; Ambition, Achievement and Aspiration. Membership of a House affords each member of the academy an opportunity to be known for their individual talents and interests as well as enabling them to compete in a variety of ways. Leadership in our academy is not reserved for the staff and the contribution made to the ethos, values and operation of the academy by our student leaders led by our Head Prefects and their team cannot be underestimated. Together the High Weald community works toward continual improvement.
The High Weald Academy are looking for a Learning Mentor to work with students on a 1:1 or small group basis. You will support students in lessons, ensuring that they are on-task and that their behaviour does not become a barrier to their learning. You will need to establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and supervising them in their interactions with staff and other students, both in and out of lessons. The successful candidate will need to have experience of working with students, preferably in supporting with complex needs, and will need to have excellent communication skills. This is a fixed term position linked to high needs funding, and the hours will be 37 hours per week term time only, plus 5 days. The salary is Kent Scheme 3, points 7-1, £12,869 to £14,316 (full time equivalent £15,252 to £16,967) and the position is available immediately.
