Job overview

Help our pupils meet their full potential

Grove Academy is a new free school that opened in September 2017 and is the first all-through school to open in Slough. We now have children in Reception, Year 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8. We are currently in temporary in the centre of Slough and will be moving to a brand new building in 2020.

Central to our ethos is ensuring that pupils are ready to learn and this is reflected in our Learning Hub. The hub is a central location in the school led by our Inclusion Manager/SENCo and is designed to provide 1:1 and small group support to those children across the whole school who need it. It is also aimed at inducting new children into the school so that they are ready to learn.

We are now looking for an experienced colleague to join the team as a learning mentor to help us to address barriers to learning and achievement through small group work and 1:1 supportive relationships. They will also support the induction of pupils into the school or back in to class, assessing their readiness to learn. As a mentor they will provide direct support and guidance in relation to study skills, personal organisation, and revision and examination techniques. We would also want them to run group sessions and workshops for parents at school and advise parents on behaviour strategies and parenting skills.

The successful candidate will asses, monitor, evaluate and record pupil progress and prepare reports as required. As an experienced colleague they would also deliver over work as required.

What can we offer you?

  • A great place to work where you will feel valued for your hard work.
  • CPD to further develop your skills.
  • Opportunities to grow with the school.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has recent relevant experience of working in a school
  • Is a proactive and flexible team player
  • Is able to use their own initiative to support children’s learning.

Closing date: 10th December 2018

Grove Academy is the first all-through school to open in Slough and provides opportunity and education for 4 to 16 year olds, underpinned by high-quality teaching and learning and a common assessment framework. This continuity ensures that we can avoid the dips in performance associated with transition from one phase or school to another.

As one school we are able to teach subjects to our younger children via specialist subject teachers, such as modern foreign languages and PE. We can provide pastoral care for children in challenging circumstances by offering a ‘joined-up’ strategy and support families more consistently over a longer time.

Staff say - "I am proud to be a staff member at Grove"

Parents say - "We are really happy and proud that our child goes to Grove Academy"

Students say - "Grove has really kind teachers who care about their students"

Our Vision, Aims & Ethos:

Grove Academy is a school where every child can feel welcome, successful and included. We want our pupils to:

· Be responsible, fully active citizens who are kind to one another, ready to learn, know how to keep themselves safe and are proud of their achievements

· Develop the confidence to participate in decision making, and have a creative input across the three areas of family well-being, public service and contribution to the economy

· Engage in a curriculum which will encourage problem solving, critical reflection, research and challenge

· Leave school confident in their ability to succeed and able to successfully access the  world of work or further/higher education

· Be able to learn new skills and engage in business markets that no one is yet able to define

· Be the future leaders of our society

· Recognise the importance of creativity and innovation to their future lives
