Job overview

This is a new role created at Moon Hall and we want the successful candidate to grow and mould this role based on their own training and experiences in line with our pupil needs

Moon Hall is thriving, with over 40% pupil growth in recent years, new development projects and improved school facilities make this a very exciting time to join our school.

We are a Mainstream school and follow the National Curriculum, however we expect our Teachers to adapt and tweak their plans and resources in order to meet the needs of our pupils.

All pupils at Moon Hall are Dyslexic, they are bright and they are able, therefore a willingness to change plans and consider things from their perspective is needed.

Our pupil behaviour is exemplary, our staff community is kind and supportive and our GCSE results are wonderful.

A qualification as a Learning mentor or experience in a similar role supporting senior pupils (year 7 to 11) is desirable.

The role would be primarily focussed on our Senior pupils, however there may be times where you may be required to support pupils throughout the school of all ages.

Moon Hall School Reigate is a Mainstream Dyslexia Specialist school. We begin at year 3 and our oldest pupils leave in year 11.

We give our pupils the opportunity to access the mainstream curriculum and to close the gap between current attainment and what they should be achieving. Through appropriate curricular provision we respect the fact that pupils require different strategies for learning, acquire, assimilate and communicate information at different rates and need a range of teaching approaches and experiences.

Our aim is for all pupils to be independent learners.

Headteacher

Michelle Catterson BSc, PGCE, SpLD Level 3

BDA Board Trustee and APPG member for Dyslexia

Mission and Aim

We aim to help and support every pupil to achieve their full academic and co-curricular potential, teaching to each individual’s ability. Although literacy and numeracy are the main priorities on the curriculum, Moon Hall School also wants the pupil to have personal development to succeed as adults in the 'real world'. The school values aspiration, courage, resilience and ambition.

ISI report

“The quality of the pupils’ overall achievement and learning, including the EYFS, is excellent. The pupils are well educated in line with the school’s aims to give them the confidence and skills to access the curriculum. Pupils are successful in team and individual activities. These include winning art prizes in a local festival and recognition in a national poetry competition. Pupils play hockey at county level. All pupils overcome their difficulties, and their varied starting points, these results demonstrate that the pupils achieve extremely well at GCSE. The pupils’ attitude to their work and learning is usually extremely positive.”
