We seek applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and of no faith but who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.

St Mary’s Catholic School is seeking to employ a suitably qualified full-time Learning Resource Centre Manager to manage and continue to develop a thriving, secondary school study centre/library. We are looking for a proactive, student focussed, confident and reliable candidate with excellent communication and ICT skills. The ideal applicant will be well organised, able to work unsupervised on their own initiative and ideally will have experience of a school library/resource centre or other relevant experience. We use Accelerated Reader as a tool to drive standards in reading and literacy and this will be led and managed by the post-holder.

Working at St. Mary’s is an extraordinary opportunity.  Our previous OFSTED inspection judged us as Outstanding in every category, and our most recent S48 Inspection (2018) also judged us as Outstanding in every area.  Over the last 4 years, exam results have risen at both GCSE & A Level.  The ‘Progress 8’ score for 2018 was +0.61, which puts the school in the top 10% in the country, and the 2019 also placed us ‘above average’.  At A Level the proportion of A*-B Grades as well as students enrolling at elite Russell Group Universities has risen significantly over each of the last 5 years, with a number of students holding acceptances to Oxbridge for September 2021.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.   Added to this, the school is also at an extremely exciting juncture in its future.  Demand is high, and owing to intense oversubscription, we will be 5 years through expansion to 6FE, with an extra-ordinary 7FE in Sept 2021.  We have also won over £7m in capital bids in the last 4 years and are enjoying brand new cutting edge facilities as a result.  The school faces an extremely strong and positive financial future.

We are passionately committed to developing staff and managing workload to ensure that colleagues enjoy their work and recognise St. Mary’s as an almost-uniquely positive place to teach and enjoy their careers.    Our Surveys this year showed that 96% of staff enjoy their work at St Mary's, 97% agree that leaders do all they can to ensure a motivated and respected staff, 100% of students enjoy their learning and believe that behaviour around the school is good, and 97% of parents would recommend St. Mary’s to other parents.  We are passionately committed to developing staff and managing workload to ensure that colleagues enjoy their work and recognise St. Mary’s as an almost-uniquely positive place to teach and enjoy their careers.

Apply in writing using the forms available on our website http://www.stmarys.net/about-us/vacancies/ Support Staff Application Form, Rehabilitation of Offenders Form & Recruitment Monitoring Form.  Please note only applications on St Mary’s forms will be accepted. Welcome

St. Mary’s has a strong tradition of providing an authentic education which aims to deliver excellence for every member of our Catholic community. It is our mission to build on that tradition as we develop the school still further over the years ahead.

Our school is built upon an ambitious mission for each and every young person: to fulfil academic potential; to be fully developed in the personal, social and spiritual areas of life; to achieve excellence in every area of life; and to be underpinned by Gospel Values, enabling each person to value individuals and contribute positively to society. We work in partnership with parents and the wider community to ensure that this mission is accomplished in the lives of all our young people, and in so doing, enable those young people to live life to the full.

The aims of the school are:

• the formation of our young people according to Gospel values;
• the fulfilment of the potential of our pupils in all aspects of the curriculum;
• the personal, social and spiritual development of our pupils into responsible, generous and caring members of society;
• the achievement of all these within a culture of respect and appreciation for the worth and contribution of each member of our school and its wider community.

In 1896, five Sisters from the Belgian congregation of St Mary of Namur came to Bishop's Stortford and established a school with just 9 students.  These pioneering Sisters were the first to provide Catholic education for the district, and the school rapidly became a success. Their legacy is St Mary’s Catholic School, and as we look to the future with high expectations for continued success, their vision continues to inspire us. This is expressed in our aspiration towards academic excellence founded on Gospel values. In practical terms this also means the best possible pastoral care and guidance and the challenge and support of a broad range of spiritual opportunities which permeate through all aspects of school life.
