Job overview

We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic Learning Resource Centre Manager to lead and manage our thriving school library as our current librarian is taking up a post with the School Library Association. This role would suit someone who thrives on a proactive approach as it involves direct liaison with students, colleagues across the school, families, and external organisations.

Our library is a busy hub, open from 8.30am until 4.30pm with access at social times for students and all subject areas making active use of the facilities. Our librarian plays a key role in engaging all students in reading for pleasure, promoting digital literacy, and working with all departments to develop literacy across the curriculum. You will lead sessions with classes or small groups of students and work with individuals to support the use of digital and written resources. You will also play a key role in celebrating successes and using the school social media to promote reading and events in or beyond school. You will also be working alongside a library assistant and our fabulous student volunteer helpers.

We are looking for someone who has an extensive knowledge of current Children’s publishing, a love of reading, is extremely well organised and has a friendly, helpful nature, together with excellent communication and computer skills. Ideally, you will hold a degree or Masters level qualification in Information and Library Management. Candidates who do not hold a Masters qualification but have substantial experience in leading an active library will also be considered. Getting the right person to work with our students is our absolute priority and we would be happy to support a suitable candidate with continuing professional development.

This is a full-time (37 hours per week), term time plus 2 weeks post but to secure the right candidate, we will consider either a part-time application or a further discussion about working days out of term time.

The job description is generic but there will be every opportunity as part of the interview process to discuss this in detail.

King Edward VI School is an 11-18 school serving the community of Lichfield and surrounding rural areas. We want everyone in school to develop to their full potential; it is our job to ensure that students leave us as confident, life-long learners who have a strong sense of responsibility for themselves and for others. We are a learning community with a positive, supportive and friendly environment where we take the time to get to know our students so we can support their learning and their personal development. We seek to develop a strong partnership between students, parents and the school to enable this to take place.

Our overriding aim is to provide the highest quality education for all students. We believe that every individual has potential: our commitment is to help each young person to make the most of their abilities. The majority of our students seek to continue their education with us in our Sixth Form until they are 18 and our results are consistently amongst the best in Staffordshire. Our aim is to ensure that students leave us with the knowledge, skills, confidence and love of learning that is needed to successfully complete their education and throughout their life.

‘It was noted that there is a school culture which is underpinned by high expectations and a climate of mutual respect. As a result, pupils are keen to learn and work hard’. Ofsted October 2017

Learning reaches far beyond the classroom; we seek to provide an all-round education. Extra-curricular activities are offered in a wide range of areas and staff are encouraged to share their own areas of interest with the students. There is also an extensive range of educational visits and events both locally and further afield. Our students are able to explore their potential and develop new skills; we encourage all students and staff to get involved with the wider life of the school and its community.

The school’s strongest assets are its staff and students. If you are considering joining us then please consider coming for an informal visit and see for yourself.

We are committed to professional development and encourage a collaborative approach to school improvement.
