Job Title: Learning Support Assistant  

Responsible to: SENCo  

Salary Scale: NJC Outer London Scale 3/4 (£18,657-£21,984)                                           Actual Salary (£14,401 - £16,969)  

Hours:  32.5 hours per week: 8:30 a.m. to 16:00 p.m.  Term Time + 1 week 

Type of Contract: Permanent

We are a highly successful comprehensive school in the South West London/North Surrey area looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant as part of our student support services.  

The role will involve working with students to support their learning in class and through withdrawal from class, but also support our specialist behaviour staff within our internal exclusion unit, supervising and working with students whose behaviour may be a barrier to learning.   

The aim of the role is to support students so that they achieve their potential. Emphasis is placed on the appropriate personalised strategies and interventions for each student, which will enable them to successfully manage their social and emotional development.   

An understanding of Safeguarding is essential as well as a willingness to undertake training.   

The successful candidate will have:  

  • Experience of working with or caring for children aged between 11 to 18 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Good numeracy/literacy skills 
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults 
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team 
  • An understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities 
  • A highly professional manner

Carshalton High School for Girls is a highly successful, popular 11 to 18 comprehensive school.  There are 1450 students on roll, over 80 teaching staff and a number of support staff who make a major contribution to the daily smooth running of the school.  Staff work as a cohesive team setting the highest professional standards as an example to the students.  Students enjoy positive and co-operative relationships with staff and it is very rare if an external visitor to the school does not comment on the high calibre of the students and the positive working environment.  We are part of the Girls’ Learning Trust.
