Learning Support Assistants - 1 Year Fixed Term Contract in the first instance.

Grade D – salary points 19 – 21 

Actual Salary £16,106 - £17,303 per annum (£18,559 - £19,939 FTE) 

Term Time only plus 5 days - 37 Hours per week

The Academy

Nunthorpe is a very popular outstanding co-educational 11 – 19 comprehensive converter Academy with approximately 1550 students on roll.

As of the first of September 2014 Nunthorpe Academy officially started work as the lead Teaching School in the North East Schools Teaching Alliance – NESTA. This new school led system of self improvement focuses on six key areas, (the Big 6), which include the development of School to School Support; Professional Development; Specialist Leaders of Education; Initial Teacher Training; Succession Planning and Research & Development.

The Role

The role would be contracted 37 hours per week term time 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Thursday (8.30am 4.00pm Friday) with a 30 minute break each day. This will be on a Term Time only basis plus 5 additional days, per academic year. 

Duties will be supporting students with Special Educational Needs in particular those with Social and Emotional needs such as ADHD. This will be both on a 1:2:1 basis and targeted group basis, this could be within the classroom or on a withdrawal intervention programme. Being part of the Pastoral team will be an important aspect of the role such as being involved in the mentoring schemes and being a key worker to students who are identified to require such support. 

The Candidate

We require an energetic, inspirational and talented person with a passion for the education of students across the whole 11 – 19 age and ability range. The successful candidate will have had experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs delivering successful intervention programmes to enhance the students’ progress.

Have knowledge of the New SEN Code of Practice (2014).

Hold a Level 2 NVQ in Supporting teaching and Learning or equivalent. 

GCSE (or equivalent) grade B in Mathematics, Science and English, are a minimum qualification requirement for this post.

To be calm, efficient, and highly organised, with the flexibility to work with other faculties on occasion across our school is essential

Nunthorpe Academy is part of Nunthorpe Multi Academy Trust (NMAT). 

Nunthorpe Academy is a mainstream, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school for children aged 11-18. It is situated in Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough, and has over 1600 students. The Academy was rated “Good” in its most recent Ofsted inspection (2019) whilst the sixth form provision maintained its 'Outstanding' status.
