St Augustine's Roman Catholic Primary School is a co-educational academy in Darlington, County Durham, for students aged 5-11.

Headteacher

Martina McCollom

Values and vision

St Augustine's Roman Catholic Primary School recognises that its duty is to prepare students for life in modern Britain and to keep them safe.

Democratic values are part of the ethos. Pupils are afforded opportunities to have their voices heard, through the elected School Council and the collection of pupil views in lesson observations. ‘Thought boards’ are used to invite everyone to contribute views and ideas on a particular topic.

The school has an assertive discipline policy, through which children learn there are consequences when rules are broken. A Junior Neighbourhood Watch programme takes place in Year 5, helping to reinforce messages about right and wrong behaviour.

Teachers encourage pupils to be independent learners, making choices within a safe and supportive environment. They aim to develop self-esteem and self-confidence through positive discipline, Religious Education and the school’s Statements to Live By scheme.

Children are helped to understand their personal freedoms. They are taught how to use their rights to best effect, and they learn that rights match responsibilities. Pupils at St Augustine's Roman Catholic Primary School support a variety of charities, locally, nationally and globally. Children are taught about different aspects of safety, including e-safety, the dangers of substance abuse, stranger danger, and fire safety.
