We are looking for an experienced, talented and dedicated future member of our team who will engage with, exceed in and develop the following role:


This position will be expected to have responsibility for the school library, working in close liaison with the  IBMYP and IBDP Coordinators. 

The Librarian will oversee the strategic and day-to-day management of the school library,  lead in its development and promotion and provide a service to the curriculum in order to enhance the quality of the learning experience of the students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library programme is aligned with the mission, goals and objectives of Ermitage and meets the requirements of the IBMYP & DP programmes;
  • Manage and oversee library services including operation, policies and procedures, resources, and facilities;
  • Ensuring that the library is an environment conducive to effective study and supports the aims and objectives of the School; 
  • Manage the planning, administrative and budgetary functions of the library;
  • Collaborate with subject teachers to design and implement effective information literacy, academic integrity and research lessons  to support learning;
  • Help support the creation of inquiry-based classrooms that develop critical thinking skills, knowledge and a range of Approaches to Learning skills within an environment based on trust and respect;
  • Providing professional services in support of learning and research needs to achieve the most effective delivery of the curriculum.
  • Supervise volunteers and student librarians, where applicable;
  • Supporting student supervision where appropriate
  • Promote the school’s academic integrity policy and the ethical use of information;
  • Promoting the Library through displays and activities plus the website, with input from subject departments
  • Promoting the proper use of the Library within the School: implementing a programme of Library skills tutorials for students.
  • Analyze and evaluate library and information services, technology and media service requirements;
  • Prepare reports related to library and information services, technology and media services, resources and activities;
  • Perform cataloguing and classification of print, audio-visual, electronic and online resources; 
  • Maintain inventories, compile statistics and generate reports as required;
  • Provide library services in response to the information needs of library users;
  • Respond to daily on-site requests for information;
  • Liaising with the timetabler and SLT to support changes to the timetable for curriculum-based skills lessons, outside speakers, etc.
  • Play a full part in the school’s admissions process including attending Saturday Admissions day(s) if and when needed; 
  • Performing other duties and assuming accountabilities as apparent or as reasonably requested by the Head of International Section, including mutually agreed upon objectives.


Key Requirements and Person specification

Required

  • Relevant experience and qualifications in overseeing the daily operational and strategic needs of the school library. 
  • A love of books and a desire to inspire children to read
  • Ability to appraise and evaluate library materials to ensure a well-balanced, up-to-date stock which meets the curricular and recreational needs of all readers
  • A good command of written and spoken English and French
  • Experience in managing library services, ideally in the education sector
  • Strong administrative, organisational, and IT skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to communicate with pupils, colleagues and parents, and to build strong relationships with all members of the school community
  • Sensitivity to the cultural differences found in France and the willingness to develop and maintain a cross-cultural approach to work
  • A willingness and commitment to contribute fully to the life of the pupils and school beyond the academic day, including active participation in academic enrichment and co-curricular programmes.

Preferred

Experience in working in an international school setting

  • A relevant degree and appropriate qualifications in librarianship;
  • Experience in working in an MYP & DP school
  • Experience or familiarity with a Library Management System (such as Destiny)
  • Experience in supporting the IBDP Extended Essay 
  • An appreciation of the IB Philosophy
  • Familiarity with various teaching resources including, where appropriate, digital tools to support and enhance teaching and learning;
  • Membership of a professional Library organisation (e.g. CILIP, ALIA, ALA)
  • Knowledge of the school’s aims and objectives, students’ abilities and reading needs, knowledge of books and digital material
  • Interest in working collaboratively with both students and staff
