Job overview

An exciting opportunity for a dedicated and strategic Main Grade Lecturer – Sociology and has arisen in one of the country’s largest colleges.

You will be required to teach Sociology at GCSE and A-level.  You will be required to deliver both practical and theory based sessions with a range of teaching, learning and assessment techniques ensuring that each student progress is monitored and challenged.  A good knowledge and understanding of the AQA specification for GCSE and A Level Sociology is needed to help students succeed in their exams and practical work. You must be able to support and nurture the talents of lower sixth and upper sixth students, and be able to differentiate lessons to accommodate the varying targets of each student in the class. You will also require exam and assessment knowledge of the GCSE and A Level specification. Ideally you will be an examiner for this subject but experience and knowledge of the exams and enhanced analysis of results is acceptable. 

The successful applicant must be degree-educated within the A Level Sociology area and have a recognised Teaching qualification. You will have experience of curriculum planning and delivery and be able to create effective and stimulating opportunities for all students through high quality teaching, learning and assessment that enables progression and development. You must also be experienced in supporting students to exceed their bespoke targets and have a good understanding of Alps, examiner reports and moderation reports, to help the students improve upon the national performance in the subject, last year. You should also be competent and willing to contribute to college CPD and student enrichment events, presenting student work and the college, in a positive and successful light.

Opened in 1992 after being formed from a number of colleges in the city we now have 5 locations situated in the heart of Liverpool. Currently the college serves more than a third of all 16-18 year olds in Liverpool, and educates almost 12,000 learners a year. In 2018 the college achieved a pass rate of 99.6% beating the national average of 97.6% for a-level results. Within this year as well we had a 100% pass rate in modern languages.

However, the college itself is not just facts and figures. The mission statement of provide high quality skills and education by delivering opportunities for growth to all people and business of the Liverpool City region, shows inclusivity and a community understanding. The ease in which to get here helps quite a lot to. Be it driving, buses, trains or even a ferry you are never short of options. 

Being that working/living in Liverpool does offer a wide range of experiences to have. Historical buildings like the Bombed out church, Royal court theatre house or even a hidden gem like the Bluecoat School lane which boasts being the oldest building in Liverpool. The Beatles museum is a popular place to explore the band and possible find bits out about them you might not have known. Or if just unwinding and relaxing there are multiple pubs/bars, restaurants, and comedy nights to enjoy.
