April 2021 (to be agreed upon appointment)
“Teachers always talk about how important it is to find a school that ‘feels right’ and Melbourn Primary School is that school. It is a very welcoming and supportive place to work. The staff are a dedicated and inspiring team and the children are enthusiastic and eager learn. The school is a fantastic place to work and everyone is approachable and keen to share experiences and ideas. I have loved working in an environment where you always feel you can ask, and colleagues will be more than happy to help you find the answer. Everyone is professional yet fun and friendly to work with. I have very much been made to feel part of the family since joining MPS.” (Recently appointed teacher)
After experiencing a turbulent year in their education, we are keen to ensure that our pupils ‘close the attainment gap’ quickly. As part of our strategy to address this, we would like to employ a passionate teacher who can lead on improving reading attainment for our 20% lowest attaining pupils in Years 1 and 2. The teacher would use data to inform their practice in leading small group reading sessions and managing home-school reading engagement.
Melbourn Primary School is a warm and welcoming school on the Cambridgeshire / Hertfordshire border. We are a short car journey or only a 15-minute train ride from Cambridge city centre. It is an exciting time to join our school. We have just had a significant building programme so have some lovely new accommodation and are growing to two form entry.
Our children are friendly and enjoy learning. We believe that learning should be irresistible and we strive for excellence in all we do.
We are looking for teachers who:
• Are talented practitioners who place children at the centre of their practice
• Are passionate about reading
• Are warm and caring towards all children
• Are committed to raising standards with high expectations of all adults and children
• Are dynamic and enthusiastic with a great sense of humour and enjoy working in a team
In return we will offer:
• A friendly and supportive staff team committed to raising standards
• A strong commitment to further professional development
• Fun and hard-working children
• An exciting opportunity to be part of a caring school on its journey to excellence
The position is temporary and is offered on a part-time permanent basis (Monday to Thursday afternoons only with additional paid PPA time). There would be the option of running additional after school sessions if the candidate is interested. Whilst we encourage visits, we appreciate at this time these may not be possible. We will do our best to show you around our school virtually if needed and Stephanie Wilcox, Headteacher is happy to have a telephone call or a virtual meeting to answer any questions you may have. Due to social distancing, interviews may need to take place virtually, with some tasks set in advance.
