At Lady Barn children are taught Modern Foreign Languages as a discrete curriculum subject from Reception to Year 6. From September 2018, it is planned that Reception will learn Spanish, German, Italian or another European language (taught by the French teacher). Pupils will then learn Mandarin from Year 1 to Year 3. They will then learn French from Year 4 to Year 6 in preparation for the annual 4-day visit to France in Year 6.

MFL is taught in a classroom dedicated to the subject in the Langlands building. The emphasis is on pupils acquiring an appreciation of a broad range of modern foreign languages and cultures and on developing oral proficiency and confidence, with some scope for developing reading and writing skills too.

The post offered is that of Mandarin/Form teacher from 1 September 2018. The post is expected to be 0.73 FTE, the precise amount to be agreed with the successful applicant.

There will be a probationary period of one year from September 2018.
