Facilities

The school has outstanding facilities that support the educational program, both within the curriculum and beyond. In 2020 the school opened ‘The Athenaeum’, a STEM, Sport and Wellbeing building that includes an aquatic centre and cardio gymnasium, state of the art Science, Food Technology and STEM labs, alongside a wellbeing space that caters for our oldest Senior College students (Year 11 and 12). The school is a sanctuary within the inner city of North Sydney, and is adjacent to North Sydney Oval, so that students and staff get all the benefits of an inner-city location, but the green space to enjoy and find moments of sanctuary throughout the day. Wenona is currently home to approximately 50 boarders from Year 7-12 who live on campus.

Curriculum

The New South Wales Curriculum (NESA) is employed by the school across all year levels. In the Junior School (K-6) students learn through the International Baccalaureate – Primary Years Programme. The school achieves outstanding results in the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and is often ranked amongst the best comprehensive and independent schools in the state.  The school is committed to a broad liberal education and our curriculum offerings reflect this depth and breadth across all years.

Student Wellbeing

Student wellbeing complements the academic program and is a vital part of Wenona life. Staff at the school actively support students in their academic and pastoral endeavours. Wenona aims to provide a caring community within which students are known and cared for so that they can develop a strong sense of integrity and purpose. International and local service learning is encouraged to allow students to serve the community. It is hoped that students will graduate to be a positive voice within the local community and beyond.

The Vision

To educate and empower young women, in a global learning community, to serve and shape their world.

The Mission

To provide a preeminent global education for the girls at Wenona by developing a contemporary, innovative and engaged learning community, committed to the inherent value and potential of each child.

The Purpose

To deliver world class, contemporary, relevant education for girls, with a culture based on positive, respectful relationships, a focus on leadership and service.

Wenona’s Motto

Ut Prosim, that I may serve

Since Wenona was established in 1886, ‘Ut Prosim, that I may serve’ has been the School’s guiding philosophy. Age-appropriate Service Learning is embedded in the curriculum from Kindergarten to Year 12 in the belief that a focus on service enables the girls to become more generous, compassionate, outward-focused individuals, who will go on to make a difference in their communities.
