SECOND IN CHARGE OF THE MATHS DEPARTMENT

MPS/UPS +TLR2b (£4,531 p.a.)

PERMANENT CONTRACT FROM SEPTEMBER 2019

The Joseph Rowntree School is a successful 11-18 mixed comprehensive school of over 1,200 students, with approximately 250 in the Sixth Form. Our school is set in extensive, attractive grounds and playing fields. We have the benefit of high quality facilities which support and challenge our learners in order for them to enjoy learning and make the most of their potential in a world of huge technological change.

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, dynamic, ambitious and creative Second in Department to join our thriving and committed Mathematics team from September 2019. The role will focus on all aspects of department management, working closely with the Head of Maths. This will serve as an excellent stepping stone towards a Head of Maths post.

The successful candidate will be:

• Ambitious within their own career and in the success of their students.

• Intelligent and clear thinking with a broad and in-depth understanding of the importance of Maths within children’s learning and broader education.

• Relevant qualifications (both formal and through appropriate experience) to meet the challenge of the specific appointment.

• Skilled in the use of ICT for teaching and learning.

• Committed to the broader education and social development of young people.

• A genuine commitment to making a positive contribution to the School and most importantly a difference to the lives of young people. This includes their educational and broader achievement, self-esteem and confidence, social wellbeing and future employability.

You will find us to the north of the historic city of York and we have an excellent learning environment and superb facilities.

The Joseph Rowntree School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

The Joseph Rowntree School is an 11-18 comprehensive of approximately 1,300 students, including almost 200 in the Sixth Form. It is situated to the north of the attractive and historic city of York, in the village of New Earswick. It is 500 metres from the outer ring-road (A1237) and is easily accessible from the towns and villages of the Vale of York, or the cities of Leeds and Hull.

Our modern building is equipped with up to date classroom technology. We have an ongoing investment in new technologies and extensive use is made of Google classroom. We also have a state of the art sports centre and a wonderful performing arts main hall and studio.

We have extensive, attractive grounds, playing fields and an open landscape setting.  Inside the building, we have fantastic facilities, which really help to support and challenge our learners. As well as the main school facilities, we also have the Wiltshire Centre (Enhanced Resource Provision) which provides highly specialised support and individual teaching and learning for students of mainstream ability who have significant and complex autism.

Our Curriculum is broad and balanced, delivered in an engaging manner which inspires students to realise their full potential and achieve the best possible outcomes. We implement systems that recognise and reward excellence, encouraging all to strive to do their best.

The school was rated ‘Good’ by OFSTED in 2017 and again in October 2022.  Please see our Ofsted report for further details.  We were delighted that inspectors acknowledged how well supported our students feel, the quality of our curriculum and personal development work and our extra-curricular provision.  Our strong results and ambition to further improve makes this an exciting time in the development of our school.

Thank you for your interest in our school.
