Maths Faculty Leader/Teaching and Learning Coach

Full Time from 1st September 2021

Salary: TLR1B

A unique opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, innovative leader to inspire our Maths Faculty, whilst also having the chance to contribute to the development of teaching and learning across our whole-school.

Whitstone School is at an incredibly exciting stage of its history. With most year groups now being oversubscribed, our school is increasingly seen as a wonderful place to develop professionally, work with well-behaved, ambitious young people and spend time on a beautiful site.

This is an excellent opportunity to lead a Faculty with a united, committed team and to develop professionally in preparation for potential senior leadership. The successful candidate will be able to work with talented and supportive staff, in a school where wellbeing of all individuals is at the heart of our vision. The Maths Faculty has recently been re-designed, with excellent facilities

Our real focus on developing leaders comes through our outstanding CPD programme, our whole-school coaching strategy (which the successful candidate would help to further), our free membership to our on-site Leisure Centre, gym and classes and the opportunity to engage in internal and external leadership pathways. The successful candidate would also have the opportunity to work with Teach First, a new venture for our school, and to lead this process within the Maths Faculty.

To apply, please submit a covering letter of no more than one side of A4 setting out the skills and experience you would bring to this role and complete the application form.

For further details about the school, please visit our website http://www.whitstoneschool.org/. Preliminary conversations regarding the role can be arranged by contacting Devlina Main at dmain@educ.somerset.gov.uk

Closing date: 12 noon Monday 24th May 2021

Interviews: week commencing 24th May 2021 (Please be aware that candidates may be invited for interview before the closing date on the advert)

A criminal background check via the disclosure procedure is required.

“A Good School” - Ofsted April 2022

Our latest ‘good’ Ofsted report, from April 2022 along with our Challenge Partners review in  December 2023 highlights that Whitstone School is a ‘happy community school’ with a strong  respectful culture. Our recent accredited Area of Excellence from Challenge Partners sets us above  other schools as the only one (primary, secondary and special) across the country that has received  the accreditation for Staff Development/Investors in People. Whilst we know as a school this is true  of our students, staff and our approach to education, it is always wonderful to hear such lovely  feedback from both sets of inspectors/reviewers.

Ambition, Respect and Excellence

There is something unique about our school. Our young people are happy, well-mannered and proud to be students here. We have high expectations of them and they have high expectations of themselves.

Engaging and effective teaching, academic rigour and high quality care and support ensure our students reach their full potential and are prepared for their futures, whatever their aspirations.

Teaching and Learning

At Whitstone School, we are committed to providing a wide range of learning opportunities, both in and out of the classroom. We aim to ensure learning is exciting, engaging and challenging and that students learn the skills which will stand them in good stead in the future – such as confidence, resilience and cooperation.

Care, Guidance and Support

Our students thrive in a friendly, purposeful environment, which helps them develop into well-rounded, mature young people. At all stages they are supported and guided to ensure they are more than ready to face the challenges of adult life.

As a relatively small secondary school, both our teachers and our support staff know our students really well and ensure there is a constant focus on the needs of each individual.

Inspiring Futures

Academic, creative, sporty… whatever a child’s talents and interests, we are committed to supporting them and realising their potential. Our extra-curricular programme is enriched by opportunities: from a master class by a professional chef to instrumental lessons, from aspirational work experience days to Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. School trips are as diverse as camping in the Forest of Dean, seeing a show at a London theatre or travelling abroad for a cultural visit to France, Germany or even further afield.

Whitstone School is a small secondary school, set in the small Somerset town of Shepton Mallet.
