Position: Full time maths tutor / subject lead (37.5 hours per week, term time)

Essential: Level 5 minimum. Ideal: Full QTS

Salary: £25,000 - £32,000 depending on experience

You can expect to develop a positive and meaningful relationship with every one of our students with whom you will work closely - typically in settings of 2-8 students.

The successful applicant will also be responsible for designing and implementing the maths curriculum for both key stages 3 (years 7-9) and 4 (years 10 & 11). You will have a passion both for your subject, for supporting the life long learning and wellbeing of the young people you will be working with and for dynamically meeting the needs of young people in your pursuit of fostering in them a love of learning.

Your main responsibilities

Teaching and learning

• Teach an engaging and enriching Maths curriculums across a range of abilities across years 7-11.
• Teach on a 1:1 basis, or with small groups of learners, working with approximately 30 learners each year.
• Ensure that all lessons are planned with clear aims and objectives.
• Engage and encourage learners to participate in learning.
• To encourage and foster intellectual curiosity.
• Meets the learning needs of students and support the early identification of any previously unidentified areas.
• Differentiate tasks and strategies to provide bespoke support for a variety of needs.
• Support learners to progress towards personal and academic goals and targets.
• To check that all subject matter is effectively communicated and understood by all learners
• To set appropriate learning tasks and challenges and ensure that it is regularly marked with constructive feedback.
• Encourage all learners to be actively engaged in their own learning and in reviewing their progress against targets.
• Further Teaching and learning (TLR) development opportunities and responsibilities for the right candidate.

Wellbeing and other areas

• Develop positive relationships with learners in order to support their needs.
• Work as part of a team to incorporate agreed strategies in supporting mental health and SEND and meeting the individual needs of learners.
• Maintain registers, evaluations, academic and SEMH progress monitoring (and other records as necessary).
• Attend all session briefings and meetings with Head/Assistant Head and staff to keep up to date with individual learner progress.
• Attend all safeguarding and child protection training and be aware of Inclusion Hampshire procedures at all times.
• To keep work and learning areas clean and tidy.
• Adhere to Inclusion Hampshire policies.

Who we’re looking for

Experience and knowledge

• Qualified teacher, Level 4 or 5 in Education and Training
• Experience teaching learners with SEN, such as SEMH and ASC
• Experience of applying safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures and promoting the welfare of children
• Experience embedding research in education, mental health and young people in teaching
• Awareness of factors impacting on and issues facing vulnerable children and young people and families (e.g. disadvantage, poverty, SEND, mental health)
• Knowledge and/or experience of supporting mental health and other complex needs (e.g. depression, anxiety, self-harm)
• Knowledge and/or experience of teaching SEND learners (e.g. SEMH, ASC)
• Knowledge of learning strategies and behaviour management and experience in planning and implementing

• Ability to listen to and communicate effectively with children and young people
• Ability to build trusting relationships with young people conducive to a learning environment
• Ensuring outstanding outcomes for learners
• Motivating and engaging learners
• Working collaboratively within a knowledgeable and supportive teaching community

• This document will form the focus for Performance Management and will be integral in any subsequent review
