Job overview

Hartnell's House is a Senior Boys' House that has an equal number of Boarders and Day-Boys. The building, formerly known as Matthews' House, was traditionally the home of the Preparatory School Headmaster. It now comprises the Housemaster's 'Private Side', flats for both the Resident Matron and the Resident Gap Tutor, and accommodation for up to 45 boys.

The basement contains a large Prep and Registration Room, a Computer and Games Room, the Laundry Room and various changing and showering facilities. On the first floor, there is a large House Hall, which is the 'hub' of the House both during the day and during the evenings. After prep, the boarders have a snack supper here and there is a comfortable lounge in which they can play games or relax in front of Sky or their favourite DVD. The second and third floors contain the Dorms, which vary in size from 3 to 6 beds, all of which are single and include lockable storage space.

The House is run as a family and we pride ourselves on the warm and friendly atmosphere. The boys are encouraged to develop an awareness of, and respect for, the needs of others, and are expected to make the most of all opportunities, be they academic, sporting, musical or social. For both the Boarders and the Day-Boys, Hartnell's is 'a home away from home', where the individual matters.

Please see job description for further information.

We require a Matron to support the Housemaster and work Monday to Friday 5.45pm - 8.45pm Term Time Only.

Closing date for all applications:  Sunday 22nd July 2018

About Clifton College - The Preparatory School

Headmaster

Mr Jim Walton

Clifton College Preparatory School (known locally as 'The Pre') is the region’s largest boarding and day preparatory school for 400 girls and boys aged 8 to 13.

Bristol businessman Dr John Percival, who championed the benefits of science, diversity and the education of women, founded Clifton College in 1862. The college has since fostered the talents of students including General Douglas Haig and Olympic hockey gold medallist Lily Owsley. The NSPCC had its first meeting on the school’s grounds.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach at The Preparatory School, spanning Years 4–8. Each child is considered and treated as an individual with a unique profile of skills, passions, talents and undiscovered potential.

Although every pupil has different abilities, talents and levels of confidence, we ask each individual to aspire to the highest standards to which he or she is capable.

We believe kindness, tolerance, good manners and honesty are all vitally important in the life of our community.
