Job overview

The responsibilities of the Medical Officer would include, but are not limited to:

• To organize health and medical care on School campus and assist the School Management in drafting and updating school policies, rules, regulations, procedures and job requirements of the auxiliary staff as regards to School Health Services and give advice in crisis and outbreaks of diseases.

• To prepare, if required, annual budget, work plans; overall supervise and manage personnel and finances; assist and guide the purchase department of the School for purchase of drugs, dressing materials, equipment, instruments and other miscellaneous items.

• To ensure that all users of the service attending the OPD and the emergency are properly serviced i.e. attended to, diagnosed, investigated, treated and when required referred to in time.

• To attend to patients in the School OPD every day. The work consists of history taking, examining the patients, recording the history and the findings of physical examination; prescribing medication, and counseling wherever required. The basic aim is to provide high level of essential / primary health care emphasis being on early detection and treatment of disease and disability limitation.

• To undertake emergency measures at odd hours involving accidental injury, high fever, colic, seizure, excessive vomiting and diarrhea, loss of consciousness etc

• To conduct periodic health checks of the students once in a year and their follow up in case any abnormality is detected; to impart information and education about illnesses in day to day practice and about diseases of public health importance; provide intra team collaboration for efficient program management and find solutions arising in day to day functioning; and correspond with agencies in and outside the school on health related issues.

• On the preventive front, to implement Universal Immunization Program; to advise from time to time the person undertaking source reduction of arthropods; to generate data on health problems prevalent amongst the Pathways students during the year and planning strategies and taking necessary steps to prevent / control them will be additional responsibilities.

• To work in close association with the counseling center of the School to understand and solve the problems of contemporary life of students and educate them on family life and HIV infections and other common health problems.

• To monitor and supervise hygiene and sanitation of the school.

• To ensure that the infirmary is never left unattended.

• Monitoring and supervising replenishment of all first aid boxes in the school.

• Coordinate collaboration of PATHWAYS with MAX and other hospitals.

• Supervise medical cover to various events taking place in the school and outside it.

• Organise training of staff nurses to enhance their professional competence. 

• To conduct health and general awareness sessions for the school community – students, teachers, parents, sub staff.

• To participate in CAS

• Organise health camps for the community.
