Job Description

JOB GOAL / PURPOSE : 

This position requires specialized teaching of general music and choir across grades 6-12, including the option of IB Music. It involves management of the overall program of choral music in the school and after school. Music teachers are expected to take on the role of Musical Director (or, to designate a qualified individual) for MS and HS productions – this is a stipended position.  This position also involves developing and sustaining the MS and HS Honor Choir groups after school by directing (or liaising with the directors) and coordinating with the piano accompanist for all groups.  DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITES : Program Delivery and Development

  • Teach appropriate classes as designated by Principals in the Middle School and High School
  • Be responsible for the overall Choir program and articulated curriculum at ISB, if necessary working in collaboration with other teachers of the groups in the program
  • Direct the Musicals for MS and HS, working in collaboration with the Director/Producer and others involved in putting on a musical as designated by the 4-year production plan.
  • Liaising with Directors of (or directing) the Honor choir groups for HS and MS after school as designated by the Director of Student Activities
  • Liaise with the piano accompanist for all rehearsals and concerts 
  • Prepare and present designated concerts for each division in the school calendar in conjunction with other members of the Performing Arts Department
  • Coordinate the program for the yearly Simply Singing concerts
  • Rehearse, audition and prepare students for the yearly APAC Choir Festival
  • Accompany students to the yearly APAC Choir Festival
  • Rehearse, audition and prepare students for the yearly AMIS MS and HS Choir Festivals – the Choir Director(s) may also accompany these students to the Festival
  • Order appropriate sheet music and materials for the Choir program within the department budget to develop and enhance student learning
  • Take charge of ordering and upkeep of the Choir Music Library

Skills & Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience 
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree and current teaching certification
  • Knowledge of operation of choral music programs
  • Knowledge of comparative choral programs in other international schools
  • Ability to work with different divisions and multi-age grouping arrangements
  • Good communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interpret and follow departmental policies and procedures
  • Minimum two years’ choral directing experience preferred
  • Experience of teaching MS General Music
  • IB Music experience preferable but not essential
  • Competent piano skills preferable but not essential
