The motorvations@hopewell site is a vocational centre that is part of the wider Hopewell School. The school is situated in Dagenham and provides education for pupils aged 7 to 19 years who have EHC Plans, the motorvations site is based in Romford. It comprises a motor vehicle workshop, construction room, a creative media studio, small gym and teaching classrooms. We have plans to install a catering facility next year. We deliver a range of vocational experiences, courses and qualifications.

All of our pupils have a range of complex needs including social, emotional and behavioural problems with or without mental health issues and ASD. Children and young people come to Hopewell for a number of reasons. Some of which are associated with young people struggling with the challenges of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, opposition defiance disorder and conduct disorder. Others have suffered traumatic experiences which have impacted on their learning and behaviour.

To support the pupils individual needs Hopewell have a team of specialist therapeutic staff who are based on the school site. They work with the young people and their families/carers in a number of ways, through individual therapeutic work, group and family work as well as leading on targeted interventions across the school such as anger management and anti-bullying. We are looking for a qualified Motor Vehicle Tutor to deliver the City & Guilds Level1/Certificate qualification in motor vehicle maintenance. We are an accredited centre for City &Guilds and Gateway qualifications.

You will be working with 14 to 19 year olds with EHC plans and delivering Motor Vehicle qualifications, with the overall aim of supporting our learners to develop their knowledge and skills and help them access appropriate training and employment opportunities.

Working within a dedicated team, you will ensure functional Maths and English are embedded across all students completing a learning programme including vocational training. You will be responsible for planning and will need to ensure work is marked and prepared for Internal Verification and exams.

You will be responsible for planning and teaching the curriculum, as well as differentiation and will be required to ensure work is marked, records are kept and assessment is on-going, ensuring all students are ready for exams. You will have the ability to embed functional Maths, English and ICT throughout the curriculum, from Entry Level to Level 2.

Working with young people who may present challenges, your delivery will be creative and engaging, to ensure our young people achieve their aims in all subjects. You will be supported by our Assistant Headteacher  who is responsible for leading the team to drive up quality, reaching and exceeding are KPI’s within our SIP and promoting an ethos of continuous improvement. 

As a Motor Vehicle Tutor, your main accountabilities will include:

• Leading on the production of schemes of work for the curriculum delivery
• Preparing and developing innovative lesson plans, designing and delivering group activities
• Delivering training to individual young people and groups following the programme curriculum, setting objectives and targets for achievement
• Providing one to one support to learners
• Working with team members to ensure learners achieve their targets and progress into appropriate outcomes
• Providing encouragement, guidance and support to learners to help them progress 
• Implementing school polices and systems to manage any behaviour issues that arise 
• Preparing and submitting up to date assessments of learners on a half termly basis
• Monitoring and maintaining appropriate paperwork and records of progress 
• Working collaboratively with parents and informing them of their child’s progress
• Establishing, developing and maintaining effective working relationships with other external organisations involved with motorvations, the school and the pupils.

Qualifications:

To be successful as a Motor Vehicle Tutor at motorvations@hopewell, you will need considerable experience in teaching motor vehicle maintenance, particularly with young people who have social, emotional and mental health issues who can present with challenging behaviour. You will also need to have extensive experience of Ofsted inspections, and have been involved in an inspection process, demonstrating Good or Outstanding teaching practice. 

In addition, we are looking for:

• A relevant teaching qualification equivalent to PTTLS Level 3 
• Maths and English qualifications, at Level 2 or above (or equivalent) 
• Experience of working with young people, their families and communities, including those who are from a variety of ethnic groups and cultures or who may be vulnerable or disadvantaged in some way. 
• Experience of working with support staff within a learning environment and directing their role within your lessons
• Experience of identifying young people's needs and using their EHC Plans to plan lessons that address their identified needs.
• Experience of a range of approaches to working with hard to reach and difficult to engage young people
• Experience of setting pupil targets and planning interventions to address any gaps in learning.
• Experience of report writing
• Experience in leading in the delivery of accredited training programmes
• An in-depth understanding of and commitment to safeguarding
• Knowledge and understanding of progression routes for young people
• Ability to undertake diagnostic assessments
• Skills in preparation and use of wide range of learning materials/resources
