Hours: 37 hours per week, Term Time Only + 15 days (41 weeks per year)

Leeds West Academy is an over-subscribed 11-18 school. Role: To contribute to key objectives of the Academy Development Plan, ‘Raising standards of achievement’ by; providing high quality technical and creative support to staff and students; preparation of apparatus/resources for practical lessons; general maintenance of equipment; administration and management of resources; assist in extra-curricular activities.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

• To assist in the daily preparation of equipment, apparatus and specialist resources for Teaching & Learning and practical Art & Photography lessons. Assist teaching staff and students with use of equipment.

• Ensure adequate provision of materials and equipment for students and staff for teaching, workshops, research/project and income generating work as required within specific areas.

• To assist staff in the recording and evidencing of students’ work; management of, photography and media video and music files, including individual student files and storage media; arrange the photography and filming of performances, lessons and rehearsals for examination and department use.

• To support students using the specialist Art & Photography resources during lessons and in Studio 55 and after school practice.

• To work with the IT Helpdesk and Area Team Leaders in devising proposals for equipment upgrade replacement and expansion.

• To work with the Department Heads in devising arts-based events and productions.

• Arrange for the servicing of area team equipment, specifying and installing additional equipment as necessary within specific areas, asset management of equipment; administration of the booking in/out system for equipment, including ‘fault reporting’ procedures.

• To ensure the strict adherence to health and safety procedures with specialist equipment (e.g. kiln room, chemicals etc.)

• Overall responsibility for charging, distribution and asset management within the Art & Photography department.

• Administration and planning of productions and events management in regard to the above e.g. telephone, filing, paperwork, orders.

• To provide creative ideas and innovative solutions within the team, buttressing growth and development of teaching and learning within the department.

Leeds West is a co-educational, non-denominational 11-16 secondary in the city’s district of Bramley. The school is a member of the White Rose Academies Trust. There are currently approximately 1,300 students on the school roll. The school is located near Summerfield Primary School and Stanningley Park. The school offers an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities from martial arts to chess. The school is also sponsored by Leeds City College.
