St Joseph's College is a vibrant independent day and boarding school in Ipswich providing a broad and seamless education for over 550 boys and girls aged 3 - 18. We provide a wide range of stimulating and challenging opportunities that our pupils embrace in both the academic and extra-curricular life of the College.

The resultant all-round education develops our pupils into well-rounded individuals who challenge themselves to ‘be our best’ in every aspect of life at the school, and beyond. Our innovative teaching and subsequent success starts in the Prep School and runs all the way through the Senior School and Sixth Form.

We are looking for a committed, organised and caring Non-residential Matron to support the Boarding Team in providing the continuity of pastoral care and supervision necessary for the welfare and safety of pupils and effective running of the boarding house. The role is hugely varied and involves supporting the medical wellbeing of pupils, administrative support to the Housemaster, organising and undertaking domestic duties and supporting with hospitality to current and prospective parents. The successful applicant will be a major role as a ‘parent figure’ and as such will be a key member of the house team.

Candidates should be calm under pressure, experience of working with young people, confident communication skills, a clean driving license, together with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to truly listen to young people. Experience of working in education or health care would be advantageous, but not essential.

Monday to Friday 8.00am-4.00pm or 3.00pm-10.00pm, alternating with another matron week by week. In addition, matrons would be available to work for one day over the weekend every other weekend (Saturday or Sunday). 8 weeks holiday per year. 1 week to be taken in October half term, 2 weeks to be taken at Christmas and 2 weeks to be taken at Easter and 3 weeks to be taken in the summer holidays.

Further details and an application form can be found at www.stjos.co.uk/our-community/job-vacancies/ or by contacting the HR Officer by email (careers@stjos.co.uk) or telephone (01473) 690281.

The closing date for applications is Midday Friday 1 June with interviews w/c Monday 4 June. The College reserves the right to interview prior to the closing deadline, so early applications are encouraged.

St Joseph’s College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be required to undertake child protection screening appropriate to the post, including an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service. Please be advised that applications cannot be accepted unless they are on the College’s Application Form. References will be taken up and will be carefully checked. DBS charge payable by applicant.
