Job overview

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Assistant to work within a developing therapy service at Pield Heath House School. This is a non-maintained school for children and young people between the ages of 7 and 19 years, with moderate to severe complex learning needs and associated speech, language and communication difficulties, including Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). This is an exciting opportunity to really make a difference to the lives of our children, young people and their families. 


The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of the multi-disciplinary team and wider school team. You will assist with the assessment of students’ functional skills and sensory needs. This will involve conducting assessments, maintaining current and accurate case notes, and contributing to the clinical discussion and management of individual students within the therapy and teaching teams. 

 

The Therapy Team is committed to embedding clinical interventions across all aspects of our students’ home and school routines, ensuring that our students are able to access their learning effectively. The successful candidate will receive support and clinical supervision from a senior Occupational Therapist. All therapy staff are supported by the Clinical Lead for Therapies Team.

History and Ethos

Founded in 1901 we are a non-maintained school for young people aged 7-19. We offer day, residential and short break provision for those with moderate to severe learning difficulties, complex learning and behavioural needs, including autistic spectrum disorders and associated speech, language and communication difficulties. Our aim is to provide a broad range of learning experiences so that all our students reach their full potential, are able to live life to the full and become valued and valuable members of their communities.

We are a Catholic School but welcome students from all other faiths. Our ethos is founded on the principle of respect for all regardless of religion, gender, race or social background, we value the contributions of all individuals equally.

Location

Located in Uxbridge, Middlesex we are situated close to the M25 and M4 motorways with ample car parking on site. We are well served by excellent public transport links being  a short bus ride from Uxbridge tube station on the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines. 

Our School

Our school provides learning in small class sizes with a high level of individual support. Each of our students has a personalised education programme which addresses their specific needs to live a fulfilled life in a challenging and changing world. We offer a differentiated curriculum supported by an experienced Therapies team who work alongside educational and residential staff in supporting the development of each individual student.  Our students who board benefit from learning life skills in a 24 hour curriculum.  

On site, in addition to our residential house we also have a well-equipped sensory room, soft play area and for those students who are unable to access learning in a classroom environment we have an Inclusion Hub which provides individual spaces for learning and developing the skills to allow the student to reintegrate, over time, back into the classroom. We have a horticulture team and students are able to learn and develop their skills within our extensive grounds. Students enjoy and develop by cycling on our Cycle Track and learn road and travel safety in our Travel Training Centre.

We are proud to be a Thrive accredited school and follow its principles to help support the emotional and social development of our students.  Pield Heath is a member of the British Institute for Learning Disabilities (BiLD) and embrace the principles of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to support our students. We support staff, therapists and parents to deliver a programme for each student to help improve their confidence, independence, behaviour and social interactions.     

Our Team and Professional Development

Our staff are a supportive, dynamic and forward thinking team of professionals who are committed to working together to obtain the best possible outcomes for our young people. They participate in on-going CPD training and we regularly invite external organisations to lead additional training sessions. We are a Training School as part of the West London Teaching Schools  Alliance and offer mentoring opportunities and successfully training teachers alongside St Mary's University.
