Job overview

We have an opening for an experienced and enthusiastic Primary practitioner for the position of Mayfield Chestnut Primary Outreach Worker for children with SEMH.

Mayfield School is a successful, popular Special School, catering for pupils aged 3 to 19 years old. The Chestnut Centre caters for primary aged pupils who are educated outside mainstream education because of significant emotional difficulties and challenging behaviour.

Mayfield currently provide 3 outreach teams supporting Primary schools in Torbay; Learning Team, ASC Team and SEMH Team. The SEMH Team work with children, key adults and parents within school to enable the child to reach their full potential.

We are currently looking for an outreach worker to join the dynamic SEMH Team. Applications are invited from experienced, enthusiastic, innovative practitioners keen to develop their knowledge and practice of working with children within the primary sector who are struggling to manage.

The job is for 30 hours per week,  Monday - Friday,  term time only (39 weeks of the year).

You will have:

• Evidence of being highly effective at forming relationships with both children and adults

• A passion for working with children with Social emotional mental health difficulties (SEMH) and associated challenging behaviour

• A drive for improving the outcomes of the children in your care

• teaching assistant experience (SEN/SEMH)

An understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health and effective strategies to support and promote achievement are essential. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to share their understanding and model how to support children with SEMH. Knowledge and experience of using the Thrive approach and/or The Boxall Profile, in supporting children would be a distinct advantage.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment.
