Job overview

Part-Time Teacher of Science

Canbury School seeks an inspirational and experienced teacher of Science who is able to teach the subject from Year 7 to Year 11.

With maximum class sizes of fifteen students, we are looking for someone who has experience of teaching Science, from Functional Skills through to GCSE but most importantly he/she should be flexible, innovative, friendly and enthusiastic about his/her subject.  Working as part of a team is vital and he/she should be able to work constructively within a cohesive and very busy school where the children genuinely are at the heart of everything we do.  It is essential that the person appointed enjoys working with young people.  The successful candidate should be ready to contribute to the range of tasks associated with a busy school and be willing to go the extra mile for our students.

The School has a fully equipped science laboratory with a prep room.  There are a full-time science teacher and a science technician.  The lab has a PC and IWB and all staff have their own school Chromebook while they are in the post.  The school is well-resourced and fully networked. Staff are required to ensure that all resources needed for teaching are made available in an electronic format accessible to students.  Strong general ICT skills are a requirement.  ICT training and support are readily available to all colleagues.

Please return your completed application form by Friday 14th May to the Bursar at bursar@canburyschool.co.uk. CV will not be accepted.

Deadline for application: 14th May 2021 at 17.00

Interviews will be held between 18th and 21st May 2021.

Why Canbury?

We do things differently at Canbury - because we understand that everyone is unique, as such we know that the manner in which we educate and support our students must also embrace those differences to ensure that we harness their individual talents.

If you thrive on seeing the opportunities in a situation, rather than the challenges, then we want to hear from you. We are seeking a talented individual with a ‘can do’ attitude. The Director of Studies will be so much more than the job title.

All staff here act, teach, foster, and mentor in a way designed to bring out the very best in every one of our extraordinary students. We expect the utmost mutual respect from all, and working as part of a team is vital. You should be able to work constructively within a cohesive and busy school.

About our School

Canbury School is an independent day school for boys and girls from the ages of 11 to 18 on the outskirts of London beside Richmond Park. With a total of 75 students on roll, we pride ourselves on truly getting to know each one of our students. All our staff are expected to contribute to the values and ethos of Canbury, making the educational journey for each child stimulating, enjoyable, challenging, and tailored.

We are proud of our broad curriculum, the wide range of qualifications we offer, and the support we are able to provide through small group teaching and, where appropriate, specialist therapists or learning support assistants.

Our School community is a happy and inclusive one, where students support and respect each other. We understand that a child’s well-being is as equally important as their academic achievements, as such we enable students to feel safe, understood, and settled in school.

If you think Canbury School would be a good fit for you, and you for us, we are really looking forward to hearing from you
