Job overview

If you relish the opportunity of working with highly motivated students in a supportive and stimulating professional environment, George Abbot School would welcome your application.

We are seeking a teacher to lead the pastoral care of one of our year groups of 300 students. At George Abbot, these roles are known as Inclusion Managers. You will be assisted by a full-time non-teaching Head of Year in addition.

It is essential that you are committed to the comprehensive education system and believe that every young person should be expertly supported and taught to achieve their full potential. You will have excellent communication skills, empathy, excellent behaviour management and relish a challenge.

You will be a strong and motivational teacher. You will be efficient and have suitable experience to provide expert pastoral support. We can accommodate any subject specialism, though would particularly welcome teachers of PE or English. However, please do not let this discourage you from applying. We have a teaching staff of 135 (FTE) and so have a considerable degree of flexibility for the right candidate.

George Abbot School is an outstanding 11-18 mixed comprehensive, situated on the north side of Guildford with an established reputation for high academic standards and exemplary pastoral care. Within easy reach of the town, the A3 and London Road railway station, we are an innovative and dynamic school which has a reputation for excellence in every area. George Abbot became an Academy on 1 July 2011 and went on to be a founding member of the GEP multi academy trust. We are a school committed to ongoing professional development and our Teaching School status provides opportunities to develop, too.
