About Panaga School

Panaga is located close to the sea in a tropical locale, within a family-oriented community. This friendly, multi-cultural school truly represents the spirit of internationalism with 380 children from over 30 different nationalities.

The school occupies four buildings across two sites. The youngest children attend the Mendaram Building (2- to 4-year-olds). Children then progress to the adjacent Rampayoh Building (5- to 7-year-olds). The older children are taught in a second school site located across a road, approximately 800m away with the Teraja Building (8- to 11-year-olds) and the Melilas Building (12- and 13-year-olds). The front page of the school’s website provides aerial footage of both school sites.

Both sites are very well-equipped and have generous outdoor playing areas. The younger years’ playground enjoys a panoramic view of the sea. Each site has a multi-purpose hall, a well-resourced library, an ICT suite, dance and drama room and music room. All classrooms are air-conditioned and fitted with modern furniture and interactive whiteboards.

The experienced staff and small class sizes at Panaga ensure individual attention and excellence and enjoyment in learning. Currently there are 38 full-time teachers and  48 local staff who support learning across the school. The children benefit from specialist teachers in DE (Digital Education), music, second languages and PE. Middle Years students access specialist teachers for all subject areas. In addition, children from P1 and above enjoy weekly swimming sessions from experienced swim coaches at the nearby Panaga Club.

Weekly assemblies on both sites are held to further facilitate integration. Assemblies follow a programme designed to offer opportunities to celebrate the cultural diversity at Panaga, showcase the achievements of classes and individual children and allow outside speakers/performers to visit.

A wide range of after school activities is open to the children – including creative and performing arts, sports and academic activities. A comprehensive calendar of cultural, community and educational day visits also support the children’s learning. Connections with neighbouring schools are strong, enabling valuable partnership learning opportunities (e.g., inter-school quizzes, sports fixtures, teacher conferences and network groups).

Parents are actively encouraged to participate in school activities and many assist with weekly group reading, the school libraries and school trips. A supportive Parent Teacher Association works to further enrich the children’s experiences through Theme Days, charity work and age-banded social events.

Brunei is a safe, tolerant Muslim country. With its natural beauty and strong social and recreational opportunities, it is a wonderful place for families to live. The school and teacher housing are set within rich fauna and flora, unique to Borneo. Panaga School provides a safe, welcoming and enriching environment for children adjusting to relocation or starting school for the first time.
