Job overview

As a Good school with an Outstanding Sixth Form, staff and students at Ridgewood enjoy some of the very best facilities available in the country. We are enjoying a trajectory of continued success and look forward to welcoming a successful applicant who can join us on our journey. Our associate staff are incredibly valuable to us and our Performing Arts Technician/Teaching Assistant will be integral to our continued success, playing a key role in both the Performing Arts faculty and the school.

Our school motto, ‘Prepare for the road ahead’, represents our belief in preparing our staff and students for their future, not only in terms of academic achievement, but also in terms of the training, enrichment and experiences which make us all model citizens. Our school values – Excellence, Integrity, Teamwork and Enjoyment – underpin what we do and contribute to our ethos in everything we undertake as a school community. We set our standards high and do not compromise, because we believe in the best for everyone.

We are seeking to appoint a Performing Arts Technician/Teaching Assistant to support the performing arts teaching staff and students at the school. There are two music teachers at Ridgewood and three drama staff.

Instrumental and vocal tuition is provided by a team of visiting music teachers, in charge of strings, woodwind and brass/percussion.  Over 100 students take individual music lessons. Current musical enrichment include concert bands, big bands, rock bands, string ensemble, choir and music technology club.

Based in the well-equipped Curie Block, the Music department proudly boasts an iMac suite featuring 26 iMacs with MIDI keyboards with Sibelius, Garage Band and Logic Pro X software. They also benefit from an additional 20 computers equipped with Sibelius software and Cubase. In addition there is a recital room and six fully restored practice rooms (benefitting from an electric drum kit, keyboard, guitar, bass, microphone and multi-channel amp). Resources and spaces in drama are crucial to enable successful performance, and the department benefit from three purpose-built rooms: MB5 is a blacked out, open rehearsal space where the vast majority of Key Stage 3 lessons are taught.  The Octagon is a small studio theatre, blacked out and fitted with lighting and sound equipment, and Faraday Theatre is a full working theatre space with black dance flooring and lighting and sound equipment in a lighting and sound booth.

At KS3, students receive one lesson a week in each of music and drama and those students who opt to continue their studies of music and drama at KS4 benefit from five lessons a fortnight.  Over 100 students choose to study performing arts subjects at KS4, taking either GCSE Music, BTEC Performing Arts, or both.

Candidates are required to possess a degree in music technology or equivalent level of experience and GCSE pass in Maths and English – Grade C or above (or equivalent).
