Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a well qualified and passionate Physics teacher who would like to work with students who are all eager to learn and challenge themselves, to join our high performing department. The successful candidate would be confident to teach Physics through to A Level and Science at KS3.

The Department

STEM at Borlase is a vibrant, exciting faculty with specialists in their subjects teaching across the curriculum. Physics is very popular at A-Level with many students choosing to study Physics or Engineering at University. Our GCSE and A level results are excellent with 35* A* and 87% A*/B at A level, and 32% Grade 9 and 87% Grade 7-9 at GCSE in 2022.

The physics department is a friendly and hardworking team, dedicated to developing our own teaching practices and inspiring an enthusiasm for our subject in the students we teach.

Everyone in the department and STEM faculty support each other and continuously share ideas to deliver outstanding lessons. A dedicated Physics technician supports the teaching of Physics in three specialist laboratories.

At KS3, all students follow an accelerated two-year science curriculum which has been designed to enthuse young people about science. Our students are taught how to work scientifically, and significant emphasis is placed on practical work that promotes investigation and independent inquiry. At KS4, all students work towards the triple science GCSE following the Edexcel (9-1) specification. Teachers enrich the students’ learning beyond the specification throughout the three year course. Academic results in Physics are excellent and every year a number of students study Physics-based degrees at university.

There are many opportunities for students to go above and beyond the curriculum, ranging from competitions and projects to conferences and subject-based lectures. Sixth-form students lead the school’s Physics Society and Engineering Society, supported by our STEM coordinator. A large number of students complete a CREST award or a science- based Extended Project Qualification. Older students are also actively involved in mentoring students in younger years.

The Borlase Curriculum provides a breadth and depth of academic learning and cultural experience to excite and extend all our students. It is rich in knowledge and in opportunities to develop creativity, instilling a life-long enthusiasm for learning. Our curriculum is delivered by passionate, specialist teachers who encourage aspiration, intellectual curiosity and the exploration of their subject disciplines inside and beyond the classroom, as independent thinkers and learners. It includes a broad range of super and extra-curricular opportunities which ignite and extend students' interests, enthusiasm and skills across a wide range of endeavours including those linked to academic subjects, to sports, the arts, engineering, AI, public speaking, creative writing, entrepreneurism and so much more.
