The Adult and Community learning provision at South Staffordshire College are seeking a qualified tutor to teach pottery and sculpture classes over a range of specialist areas. The lecturer is required to guide and instruct students in the use of ceramic materials, to make and decorate pots and objects that are functional and imaginative, and 3 dimensional forms/sculptures,  developing both creative skills and a critical awareness towards form and function.

Applicants should have sound knowledge and practice towards a wide aspect of ceramic and sculpture practices, including the relevant Health and Safety aspects. This should include the various types and states of clay, firing processes and methods such as pinching, slab-building, coiling, slip casting and throwing, the use of decoration and glazing, Construction of armatures, modelling techniques, measuring and scaling methods, mould making, casting processes alongside aspects of design and development including life sculpture.   

These are adult courses, which are specifically designed to support mature students, and are well established in the area with many learners returning year on year to develop their artistic skills to extremely high levels of practice. We also offer Art for Life courses which benefit students with various health conditions, requiring a caring and supportive approach to delivery.     

You will be responsible for designing and delivering a structured teaching programme, to directly meet learners’ needs, for each course you teach, using the appropriate documentation. As a lecturer you will need to develop specialist resources with the support of our Coordinator and Adult Learning Manager. You will also carry out initial screening of learners, set appropriate learning objectives for each learner and review these as the course progresses. Your attendance will also be required at team and other meetings to support Curriculum development.
