Job overview

Ark Kings

Primary Deputy Headteacher

Fixed term for 2 years (September 22 – August 24)

At Ark Kings Academy we take safeguarding very seriously. All adults who regularly work on our site are required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to prevent unsuitable people from working with students. Ark is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in our academies. To meet this responsibility, we follow a rigorous selection process. This process is outlined here  , but can be provided in more detail if requested. All successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Our mission as a school is to create a school in which every child thrives, academically and socially. Our school values are: 'Aspire. Expect. Achieve. Together’ – and they permeate everything we do in school with our pupils, our parents, our staff and the wider community. We recognise our role in addressing inequality by ensuring that all pupils, regardless of circumstance have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.

Ark Kings Academy is seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher on a fixed term contract to its senior leadership team. The intention is to increase our capacity to provide the rigorous and thoughtful leadership required to build a truly exceptional school.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a clear belief that an excellent education can transform the life chances of our young people. They will have a proven ability to secure outcomes for pupils of varying prior attainments and for pupils of diverse backgrounds. They will also demonstrate a clear commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and to the planning, preparation and persistence required to ensure that every pupil is able to meet our high expectations and to thrive at Ark Kings Academy and beyond.

This is an important opportunity for the right person – they will have the chance to oversee and run the primary at Ark Kings operationally on a day-to-day basis, when deputising for the primary head.  They will also play a crucial role in continuing to build on the strengths of Ark Kings Primary and ensuring the secondary continues to benefit from and learn from these strengths.

This role will help support you in development towards becoming a Head of school in the future.

In addition, they will line manage key staff, work with stakeholders, lead aspects of curriculum intent and impact, continue the excellent reading work, ensure an excellent culture of behaviour, safeguarding and inclusion is maintained as well as effective communication within the school.

In this role we are looking for an established and experienced leader who can lead across the areas mentioned above, while also being a kind, thorough and highly organised leader with exceptional communication skills. Our senior leaders think and act in accordance with a commitment to collaboration and collective responsibility.

As Primary Deputy Headteacher you will be part of the leadership team and school community which genuinely has a chance to be part of transforming lives.

It is our shared endeavour to ensure that the community we work in has a school that every year sends all its pupils to the best jobs and get to the top universities. It is our shared belief that the provision of clear, kind, consistent and cohesive leadership is key to achieving our ambitious aims, and as a result we are seeking to grow our senior leadership team.

This role will provide successful candidates with the opportunity to have a significant impact on the work we do to fulfil our mission.
