Job overview

The School and Our Location:

Richmond International School is a private, non-denominational school for students of 3 to 18 years of age. We are proud to be able to create an environment for all, with a global vision which respects and represents all of those who constitute the Richmond family, underpinned by strong British values. The school environment itself is designed to allow for the cooperative spirit shared by the students and staff, with open classrooms and communal areas that are enjoyed by all (such as our library area, cinema room, cafeteria and common areas). We are small (but growing) in size, and big in spirit!

The school has high expectations of both its staff and its pupils, and we welcome to join us those who are dedicated and committed to providing excellent opportunities for the next generation! We value creative-thinkers and positive problem-solvers, who are effective and passionate about education. If this describes you, we would love to hear from you.

Richmond International is advantageously positioned in a location that offers the best of its surroundings with plentiful transport links. It is within 30-minutes of the city (and airport) of Barcelona, situated between the beautiful seaside town of Sitges and the small city of Vilanova I la Geltru. What’s more, a short drive inland takes you to beautiful countryside and vineyards! As such, Richmond International is proud to be able to offer its staff not only a job, but also a wonderful quality of life!

The Role:

Due to the development of the school, we are seeking practitioners to join our Primary team. The exact role offered within the team will be dependent on your knowledge and experience to date, as well as the direction you would like to see your career take in the near future. Our existing Primary department consists of a small number of friendly, enthusiastic and hard-working teammates. We are seeking like-minded professionals, with knowledge and experience of either the Key Stage 1 or the Upper Key Stage 2 curriculum.

We welcome applications from flexible, child-centred teachers, who will be invested in delivering high quality teaching and learning. We insist upon engaging and inspiring learning environments for our students that promote effective attainment and progress, both within and outside the classroom. A genuine sense of care for our students and families is very important to us. As such, applicants should be able to communicate with clarity, but also warmth. Our existing team have a natural ability to develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with children and with other adults, and work as a team towards common goals – ensuring success for all.

The duties that our class teachers are required to complete fall in line with the UK Teacher standards, including: Planning, teaching and class management; Monitoring, assessment, recording and reporting; Pastoral care; and a commitment to CPD.

What We Require:

Since we are a British curriculum school, there are a number of factors that are essential. We can only consider applications from candidates who:

  • have a BA or BEd degree in Education with QTS status or equivalent;
  • have proven experience in a school in the UK or British school overseas;
  • are in possession of an up-to-date Police Clearance / DBS from the most recent country of teaching;
  • are passionate about learning and a commitment to educating the whole child;
  • inspire their students through engaging and ambitious teaching;
  • are willing participate in all aspects of school life, creating a warm, safe and respectful community to which parents, staff and students are proud to belong;
  • have good organisational and time-management skills;
  • are flexible, professional, and have a sense of humour;
  • have the knowledge and ability to carry out simple data analysis (desirable);
  • have a willingness to contribute to the school’s extra-curricular programme (desirable).

What We Can Offer:

  • An ambitious, friendly and well-functioning team, who are happy to share their knowledge and skills, helping each other with tasks big and small. Being a small school, we have a family-like environment where everyone knows each other.
  • A sincere feeling of warmth, companionship and care that has been built through a shared vision for the school that is gradually gaining in strength through teamwork, collaboration and respect for the part that everyone plays in carrying out their roles within the school community.
  • Classrooms that are bright and generously-proportioned, each with their own “garden area”.
  • Small average class sizes (usually around 15 pupils) – meaning we can really make a difference to each individual!
  • Our full-time native English classroom leaders work alongside our subject-specialist teachers for Computing, Music and Modern Foreign Languages.
  • A curriculum that, as well as offering all subjects that feature in the traditional curriculum, adopts a cross-curricular topic approach, that aims to link aspects of learning together in a way that is meaningful and sparks interest in our pupils.
  • Support with acquiring visas and/or appropriate documentation in order to work and live in Spain.
