PlayPen Bilingual Education is an independent school based in São Paulo for students aged 1-14 years and a pioneer in bilingual teaching. It was the first bilingual school in Brazil and has over 30 years’ experience in the field, providing education from Toddlers I to Middle School.
PlayPen Bilingual Education offers full English immersion for children up to the age of 4, followed by an outstanding pedagogical curriculum in both languages in other years. Expatriates comprise eight percent of the school’s faculty, which contributes to a multicultural atmosphere.
The objective, from the start, has been to offer students the opportunity to acquire a second language through daily interaction in an English immersion program located in a stimulating space, comfortable and appropriate for offering the best educational environment possible. Therefore, since our earliest years, our efforts have been focused on developing the quality of teaching.
The pedagogical proposal
Our pedagogical proposal is inspired by the social interactionist theory, according to which learning occurs through the contact of man with society. At PlayPen, students are the protagonists. Their natural curiosity is preserved and the access to knowledge by means of research is stimulated. There is no static subject matter. The goal is to acquire dynamic knowledge related to global transformations. The innovation is found in the immersion program, which creates a bilingual context without leaving Brazil. To enrich that philosophy, we have chosen the IPC, which develops both international and personal awareness. The curriculum integrates three points: subjects, international mindedness and personal development.
