Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic Primary Teacher for St Mary’s Base.  The Base has mixed provision for EYFS and 4 primary classes across Key Stages 1 and 2. We are looking for a flexible team player who is able to teach effectively across key stages 1 and 2. The successful candidate will have high expectations for all children, provide quality first teaching, make effective provision for individuals with different learning needs, develop an exciting and engaging curriculum and work in partnership with the primary team across the islands and our partner primary schools on the mainland. The successful candidate will be working with our adventurous and committed learners to build on our developing culture of high attainment and progress.

We have made very positive changes over the last 24 months to ensure that our Five Islands children, parents and staff can be proud of their school. Through the Leading Edge Academies Partnership, we are creating strong professional learning links and opportunities for career development, building our enthusiastic, outward-looking staff team.

There are around 280 students on roll across 4 school sites. Secondary students and the majority of primary students are based on the Carn Gwaval multi age site on St Mary’s. This new building was opened in 2011 and provides a bright, open, well-resourced learning environment for the students. There are bases on St Agnes, St Martin’s and Tresco, educating children from Reception to Year 6 in very small mixed-age classes. Key Stage 2 children spend every Friday at Carn Gwaval, mixing with a wider group of peers, preparing for transition and making the most of the extended facilities. Secondary students from the off islands board at Mundesley House Monday to Thursday, returning home at the weekends.

The successful candidate would be supported in finding suitable accommodation on St Mary’s. They (and any partner or family) need to be suited to the challenges of living in a remote, close island community, as well as the opportunities offered by the outdoor environment.
