Pioneering Teachers Wanted

Do you REALLY want to see your efforts make a difference for kids?

The Where

Katherine, NT, is the gateway to Nitmiluk, the Kimberley and Kakadu. With the red centre to our south and Darwin to the north, Katherine is a perfect base for your life and skills enhancing Northern Australia experience.

For thousands of years Katherine has been a meeting place for aboriginal people, a place rich in history and culture. But this is not a tourism brochure. This is about making a real difference in the lives of Australia’s most disadvantaged children.

The What

In 2021 Clyde Fenton Primary School began a journey to change everything about our school that did not put the child’s social and emotional wellbeing at the forefront of our work. We threw out the timetable, the rule book, classrooms and discipline.

We introduced wellbeing, child centred learning, sensory spaces, play-based therapy, therapy pets and fun. You might have seen us in the papers or on Studio 10.

We are seeking talented and committed free thinkers, who want to see genuine positive outcomes from their hard work, to join us in 2023.

We don’t want dreamers, we want believers! We want people who believe they can make a difference and are prepared to do the hard yards to truly walk the talk.

The How

Here in our school, we have many children who have experienced some form of complex trauma. This means that many of our cohort live with the chronic effects of intergenerational trauma, poverty, nutritional and global health delays, familial separation, the effects of drugs, alcohol and familial and systemic violence. In response, the children’s complex trauma informed behaviours prevent them from learning effectively and creating positive relationships at school and beyond. At Clyde Fenton, through our pioneering program, we are learning how to ease our children’s burden, assist them to free themselves from the behavioural responses that they can’t control, and start them on their journey to thrive.

We are committed to meeting the lived experience of our kids by developing effective therapeutic techniques and meeting trauma with evidenced based responses by fully understanding what it really means to be trauma informed. The basis of our ethos is kindness and unconditional positive regard, which means that we don’t have to accept or like the behaviour, but we do have to understand that the child is doing the best they can with what they have. We work to develop positive life affirming relationships that enhance our trust in them, their trust in us and their ability to make great choices for themselves.

We are proudly experiencing outstanding success and growth, and are looking for teachers who wish to, not only work in, and learn, this ground-breaking modality, but who sincerely want to actively transform the lives and minds of our children through high quality interaction.

Where you come in

We seek a future unlimited by outmoded educational concepts and want to work with emotionally intelligent people with open minds and self-awareness. We want professional people capable of having the difficult conversations and who are not afraid of asking questions, nor afraid of the answers. We want a highly functioning team of people to create educational experiences that grow our young people into the exceptional people that they are capable of being.

Sound too difficult? Don’t worry, training in therapeutic responses in the classroom and a supportive environment provided. Great kids abound and huge, inviting classrooms await your creative flair and energy. An onsite Play Based Therapist and a supportive leadership team with many years’ experience are on hand for discussion and shared ideas and most importantly open hearts and minds ready for your valued contribution to our school.

If you really want to make a difference and have an adventure, call Jeff on (08) 89733844 or email jeff.parker@education.nt.gov.au

Applicants will need to have the right to work in Australia and to apply for registration with the NT Teacher Registration Board

The teaching and learning programs at Clyde Fenton School are planned to cater for  individual needs, learning styles and interests. Clyde Fenton puts learning outcomes first and has very high expectations for all students. We see our role as empowering our students through helping them to gain knowledge - knowledge of facts, skills, processes and attitudes.

Our school has a clear focus on lifelong learning outcomes for students, which is underpinned by an environment of positive support based on clear expectations.

The school has a 'No Tolerance' Policy for bullying and harassment. There is an expectation that all staff and students respect the rights of others at all times. We encourage everyone's support in complying with this policy.

It is our belief that parents and carers play a critical part in their child's education and we look forward to developing a close partnership between home and school across your child's learning journey with us.
