The young people we educate and care for come to us with a huge variety of needs and difficulties. Our challenge is to help them build the hope, confidence, knowledge and skills to unlock their potential.

From innovative educational experiences to national curriculum programmes, supported by passionate teams of specialists and key workers, we actively enable each young person to achieve their personal best, all in an environment that best suits them.

Our growing family of 4,000 colleagues, supporting over 2,000 children is one of the UK’s largest and highest quality providers of specialist education and behavioural health services.

Southlands School is part of the Cambian Group and is an Ofsted-registered independent specialist school, offering 38-week through to 52-week residential and day placements for boys and girls aged 7-19 years old with a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome and other associated difficulties on the Autistic Spectrum. In November 2019 our school was rated “Good” in all areas by Ofsted.

The purpose of the school is to prepare students for the demands of adult life through staff expertise and specialist approaches. This included providing a nurturing and therapeutic environment that encourages students to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

We are looking for a maternity cover for one of our primary classes.

About the role:

We require a motivated, skilled and resilient primary year’s teacher with experience of supporting young people on the autistic spectrum. The role will suit a qualified teacher who can demonstrate energy, enthusiasm with a strong positive behaviour management ethos. Class sizes are small with TA support, all of our students need bespoke individualised learning.

You will have a flexible approach and will be able to meet the changing needs of our young people. You will be able to demonstrate experience of working with young people with complex needs, and have the confidence and skills to deal with the challenging behaviour that some of our young people can, at times, exhibit. We are looking for enthusiasm, willingness to learn and emotional resilience which are essential attributes. As Class Teacher, you will also direct and mentor classroom support staff.

Person Specification:

· To hold Qualified Teacher status;

· Experience of working effectively as part of a team;

· Experience of teaching children and/or young people with Social Emotional and Mental Health/Autism and associated difficulties;

· Experience of planning, delivering and assessing learning activities appropriate to individuals’ needs and abilities;

· Experience of working successfully in situations which draw heavily on the ability to deal with difficult pressures and personal challenges.

Experience of working in a SEND environment is essential, along with knowledge of working with ASC and complex needs.

You will join a supportive and experienced team of dedicated education and support staff.

Successful candidates will have to meet the person specification in order to be offered this post. Cambian is committed to Safeguarding and protecting the young people and service users within our care, we expect all staff to share this commitment. All candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and reference checks. Cambian is an equal opportunities employer.
