Description St Benedict's Primary School, Edgeworth is seeking a temporary part time (0.5 FTE) Release from Face to Face (Music) Teacher to join the team for 2022.

Position Requirements Teachers in a Catholic school have a unique role to play and are assigned with the task of ensuring each child has the opportunity to grow both academically and spiritually and to live purposeful lives.

The teacher will promote the school as a place of learning and excellence in accordance with contemporary evidence-based learning and wellbeing principles (including digital learning) and will ensure the ongoing development and implementation of pedagogical practices that impact on student learning outcomes.

Essential Criteria • Catholic, with the ability to articulate a personal commitment to Catholic Education (Primary and Religion Teachers only)

• Willingness to actively support the Catholic identity of the school

• Ability to apply appropriate knowledge in order to plan and prepare contemporary and compliant teaching programs and assessments in your nominated areas which meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students; and encourage them to work towards attainment of their potential

• Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise assessment and relevant school data to optimise organisational and educational outcomes

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school staff and members of the wider community in order to establish productive partnerships and achieve educational outcomes

• A capacity to teach Music K-6 using a variety of musical instruments.

• Demonstrate an innovative and agile mindset that supports and enhances a culture of continuous improvement within the school environment

• Evidence of excellent organisational and administrative skills

• Willingness to Comply or Compliance with the CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead Policy. Category B or D – Accreditation to Teach or Accreditation to Teach Religion.

• Qualifications as a four year trained teacher;

• Current NESA Accreditation;

• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC) number;

• Completion of Anaphylaxis training.

About St Benedict’s Primary School

St Benedict’s is a co-educational Catholic Primary School in the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese in New South Wales. Located in the suburb of Edgeworth it caters to students from Kindergarten through to Year 6.

The school was opened in 1962 by Sister Cabrini and Sister Anne Mary of the Sisters of St Joseph, with just over sixty pupils. Now the school has over 200 pupils, just under 10% of which have language backgrounds other than English and a further 10% are students with disabilities.

St Benedict’s school has had a series of renovations projects in the last decade which started with the creation of six new classrooms and a library in 2007. In 2011 a further two classrooms were built, as was a new school hall. The school also has an Out Of School Hours centre and a covered outdoor learning area.

Curriculum

The Religious Education curriculum at St Benedict’s is designed to help students grow to Christian maturity. The school uses the Diocesan approved text ‘Step Out In Faith’ and each member of staff is provided with a copy of the Primary Religious Education Resource Units to help implement the relevant messages in their class. Teachers are also offered support and guidance from the school’s Religious Education Coordinator. 

In addition to the Key Learning Areas St Benedict’s also has several special programs such as English as a Second Language, life education, books clubs, Aboriginal education, musical instrument classes and several literacy programs.

School ethos

The school motto is Pray Together Work Together, a notion reiterated in St Benedict’s school song that is performed by students and staff at assemblies.
