Position Requirements • a relevant understanding of the philosophy of Catholic Education.


• ability to teach in the primary curriculum area K-6.


• high level knowledge of the relevant key learning area (K-6) and a proven capacity to improve student learning.


• high quality classroom teaching skills in the area of ES1 - 3 which enable students with a diverse range of needs to achieve their full potential.


• exemplary values and attitudes appropriate to professional practice and the intellectual, physical and social development of students.


• ability to successfully implement and evaluate curriculum initiatives in accordance with curriculum and standards framework.


• demonstrated capacity to reflect critically upon professional practice and commitment to ongoing professional learning.


• commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a broad range of school activities as a member of the school team.


• high level of communication and interpersonal skills when relating to students, parents and other teachers.
Essential Criteria Applicant must


• be appropriately qualified as a four year trained primary teacher

• be a practising Catholic

• record current NESA and Working With Children number on application.

• evidence of completion of Anaphylaxis training certificate must be supplied. (https://etraining.allergy.org.au/login/index.php)

Note: To start or return to working as a teacher in a NSW school, you must be accredited by NESA.

St Paul’s Primary is a Catholic school that provides Kindergarten to Year 6 education for children in the southern part of Charlestown parish in Newcastle, New South Wales. They foster a strong relationship with the local community and the Mackillop Parish, based on the school motto ‘love one another’.

St Paul’s Primary was established in 1964 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph, with Sister Kilian being the school’s first principle and overseeing the education of just 75 students. Now the school has 235 students in its ten class groups.

The school has ten classrooms as well as a computer lab, a library, a full-size basketball court, a specialised learning support centre and a performance stage with professional lighting and sound equipment.
There are also Windows Tablets for teaching in primary classes and iPads for infant’s classes.

Curriculum

St Paul’s Primary aims to develop a respect for learning and positive attitudes for lifelong education through its curriculum, in addition to basic skills such as English literacy, numeracy, problem solving, scientific and technological skills.
Religious education make up a large part of the school’s curriculum, with all grades having formal religious lessons every day. The students also attended a full school liturgy each week where classes are encouraged to participate in by preparing the ‘sacred space’ and dramatizing Gospel readings.

The school's values are inspired by an adage from St Mary Mackillop: 'Never see a need, without doing something about it’. The strive to nurture citizenship amongst its students – with a focus on collaboration, love and respect.
