Description St Michael's Primary School, Nelson Bay is seeking temporary part time 0.6 teacher to join the team for 2021.



St Michael's Primary School, Nelson Bay is located in the Port Stephens Region, a short 45-minute drive from Newcastle CBD. A school of 275 students catering for K-6, St Michael’s provides a place where the creative and individual talents of each student and teacher is greatly appreciated, embraced and encouraged. Position Requirements Teachers in a Catholic school have a unique role to play and are assigned with the task of ensuring each child has the opportunity to grow both academically and spiritually and to live purposeful lives.

The teacher will promote the school as a place of learning and excellence in accordance with contemporary evidence-based learning and wellbeing principles (including digital learning) and will ensure the ongoing development and implementation of pedagogical practices that impact on student learning outcomes.

Essential Criteria • Practising Catholic with a current Parish Priest Reference;

• Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and to actively supporting the Catholic ethos and culture of the school;

• Ability to apply appropriate knowledge in order to plan and prepare contemporary and compliant teaching and learning programs in your nominated areas which meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students; and encourage them to work towards attainment of their potential;

• Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise data to optimise organisational and educational outcomes;

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school staff and members of the wider community in order to establish productive partnerships and achieve educational outcomes;

• Desire to contribute to the establishment of a staff wide culture of professional learning, reading and reflective practice;

• Demonstrate an innovative and agile mindset that supports and enhances a culture of continuous improvement within the school environment;

• Evidence of excellent organisational and administrative skills;

• Willingness to Comply or Compliance with the CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead Policy. Category B or D – Accreditation to Teach or Accreditation to Teach Religion.

• Qualifications as a four year trained teacher;

• Current NESA Accreditation;

• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)number;

• Completion of Anaphylaxis training.

Founded by the Sisters of Mercy, St Michael’s Primary School is a medium sized, co-educational K-6 Catholic Primary School located in the St Michael’s Nelson Bay Parish within the Hunter Region of New South Wales. Current school enrolments are in excess of 300.

The school opened in January 1963 catering for 42 pupils and following a grant of 5.5 acres of land in 1969 a new school was opened in September of that year. A local benefactor donation of $100,000 saw the building of the school library in 2009 whilst a Federal Government grant brought about the building of a school hall that was completed in 2011. Staff with a strong commitment to ongoing personal, professional development is a key contributor to the schools’ ongoing success.

St Michael’s Primary School is set on 2.128 hectares and features a variety of classrooms, a library, a modern school hall, a range of extensive play equipment and abundant, spacious play areas.

Curriculum

The curriculum at St Michael’s Primary School encompasses Religious Education and the six key learning areas of the NSW Primary Curriculum. A wide range of extra curricula activities supplement the students learning in these areas, thus providing a balanced and all round educational program that allows all students the opportunity to achieve their true potential.
