About GEMS

Trusted for over 55 years and now a third generation education family, GEMS Education began in a single school room in Dubai. Today, we have the privilege of educating over 190,000 students from over 176 countries through GEMS owned and managed schools globally; over 270,000 students access resources through our services division; and we will impact 20 million by 2020 students through the initiatives of our Charity partner Varkey Foundation.

About the School

Hillcrest School was set up as a preparatory in 1965 on State House Road, Nairobi. In December 1973, the idea for establishing the secondary led to the purchase of ten hectares of land in the Karen area, fifteen kilometers from Nairobi’s Central Business District. The school accepted its first intake of secondary students in the January term of 1975. In 1998, the preparatory relocated to Karen.

Today the campus comprises Hillcrest Early Years, Hillcrest Preparatory, Hillcrest Secondary (collectively known as Hillcrest International School) for parents wanting a complete all round education.

The facilities accommodate close to 600 students from thirty countries, catering for the families of international, professional and local business communities. Hillcrest is a co- educational fee-paying school and is expensive by local standards. Staff are recruited both locally in Kenya, and from Britain, Australia and the United States. Hillcrest is registered with the Kenyan Ministry of Education.
