This is an exciting opportunity to lead a college which is undergoing a transformation. It’s not just an FE College though – it is at the heart of Peterborough with a substantial HE offer and an interest in the co-located UTC. So, this is a Principal/CEO role with a difference.
The College offers education and training to over 9,000 students and many businesses every year providing a huge range of courses to suit everyone – with a turnover of around £28m and in good financial health it provides an excellent foundation for growth and improvement.
There are challenges though: there is an urgent need to make the FE College inspection ready for May 2019 although progress has been made since the inspection in 2017. A new middle management team, due to be completed October/November, will need to be bedded in and supported. There is huge goodwill and energy in the Board and across the staff to make this College the great College it has the potential to be, so the appointment of the new Principal/CEO will be the icing on the cake – energising and leading staff into the future.
It’s a complex role, juggling many demands which include developing its subsidiaries, the further development of the UCP and further improving the apprenticeship offer. The key focus though is the curriculum, ensuring that the pace of change is accelerated and deepened to achieve good inspection results leading to the outstanding grade in the College’s plans. To support the new appointment there is a stable, effective and well managed business support services team which the College has self-assessed as outstanding.
The person sought will need to be a seasoned FE professional, expert in the development and delivery of high-quality curriculum and able to lead and motivate the diverse range of talents in the College. Leadership qualities are particularly important as well as having a good understanding of the business imperatives facing the College and its customers.
