Job overview

The Hammond in Chester is looking to appoint an outstanding individual to be its next Principal, someone who will steer the school through the next stages of its growth and development. This represents a unique and exciting opportunity to lead an independent vocational boarding school with a strong reputation, nationally and internationally, as a centre of excellence for dance, music and musical theatre performance, as well as for academic endeavour.  The current Principal, Mrs Maggie Evans, is retiring after a decade of success and expansion, that has transformed the school.

The Board of Directors is looking for a leader with passion, vision, energy and excellent communication skills, who will continue to develop the dynamic learning environment in which the school's students excel.  The ideal person will have significant experience in senior school position, be a strategic thinker, have a passion for education and personal warmth to create a home away from home, where pupils and students can flourish.

Celebrating its centenary in 2017, The Hammond is a coeducational day and boarding school of around 350 students aged from 7 years to degree level (Ofsted rated 'Outstanding in 2011 and 2015, ISI 'an excellent quality of education' 2014) offering a broad based education with very good public examination results.  Post 16 courses are vocationally driven in the field of the performing arts, with destination aimed at careers in the theatre and the world of entertainment.

(The school participates in the Government's Music and Dance Scheme (MDS) and also receives awards from the Education and Skills Funding Agency's DaDA scheme).

The Hammond is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects its entire staff to share this commitment. All staff are subject to satisfactory employment checks and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. The Hammond is an equal opportunity employer.
