Required for either January or April 2018
Are you a talented leader looking for a new challenge?
If you are a current or aspiring Head Teacher, with the passion and commitment to lead our school through ongoing change and take it to the next level of successful performance, we would like to hear from you.
Sir Thomas Wharton Academy joined the Maltby Learning Trust in April 2017 and has embarked on a journey of rapid improvement. The students are positive in their outlook, willing and ready to learn and their parents greatly value their children’s education and the work of the school. We are working hard to secure a consistency of approach and high standards in everything we do and are establishing strong links with the other secondary Academy in the Trust. Many staff work collaboratively across the Trust, sharing planning and resources and engaging in professional learning and development.
We are looking for a forward thinking leader who will embrace all these opportunities, implement an agreed framework for school improvement and take the Academy to the next level of educational excellence. The person appointed will be a natural leader, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at a strategic level within the Trust. It is crucial that you have a sound understanding of the new progress measures and how to achieve success within these parameters. Equally as important, is that you understand and are committed to working with local partners as part of a broader community transformation agenda.
To learn more about this opportunity at Sir Thomas Wharton Academy, please visit the websites at www.stwacademy.com and www.maltbylearningtrust.com.
Informal discussions about the role and a visit to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged. Please contact Miss Nicky Bailey, Clerk to MLT Board, on 01709 812864 to make an appointment with Mr David Sutton (Chief Executive Officer).
Closing Date: Wednesday 18th October 2017 at noon.
Interview Dates: Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th October 2017
Maltby Learning Trust is committed to the safeguarding of children and young people. An enhanced disclosure from the DBS will be required for this post.

Sir Thomas Wharton Academy is a good secondary school of over 1100 students with a thriving and growing collaborative Post 16 provision. The Academy joined Maltby Learning Trust on 1st April 2017 and secured an OFSTED Good judgement in September 2021. We are now oversubscribed each year and we are very fortunate to be housed in a new building with state-of-the-art facilities.
We pride ourselves on the aspirational, supportive, and caring community we have at Sir Thomas Wharton Academy. Our team of dedicated staff ensure that students feel safe and receive the best pastoral and academic support and challenge throughout their time in the school. We further develop the cultural capital of students through a comprehensive programme of extra-curricular activities and broader enrichment opportunities.
We take an inclusive approach that maintains a focus on the wellbeing and progress of every child; we provide a safe place for learning through the application of our positive behaviour system and attention to individual student circumstances and needs. We firmly believe that students will ultimately achieve better results by establishing a positive and supportive partnership between parents/carers and teachers.
Our students are our biggest strength, they are honest, hardworking, aspirational, and willing to take themselves out of their comfort zone.
Our outcomes have significantly improved, this has been realised in part through a relentless focus on the six key drivers of:
· The Highest Standards
· Invest To Achieve
· Everyone Is Valued
· No Excuses
· Never Give Up
