Job overview

Harris Academy St John’s Wood is an 11-18 academy in the central London area of St John's Wood, situated just a few minutes' walk from the Jubilee line station. Although located in an affluent area, the academy serves an inner London community with a high proportion of pupil premium students and is ethnically richly diverse. Building on strong roots in the local community we offer places for 210 students in Year 7 and 220 in Year 12, and the academy benefits from first-class, purpose-built buildings. In September 2017, the academy joined the Harris Federation as a sponsored academy and began a fresh and exciting new journey to success.

Since joining, the academy has made good progress towards achieving academic excellence. We now seek a Principal to build upon these strong foundations.  This is a unique opportunity for a talented leader with vision and drive to continue the success of this large academy, and further develop the culture and ethos of this high-profile school.

The post would suit an ambitious leader looking either to extend their experience of Headship, or to start their first Principalship in a rewarding environment and highly supportive Federation. For first time Principals, we will provide all of the support needed in the form of individual mentoring from an experienced Harris Principal. For existing Headteachers, we offer unrivalled progression opportunities to  Executive Principalship, and the option to support you through our  National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL) programme. The course draws on the leadership expertise of Harris executive leaders and Directors as well as other successful MATs from across the country.

If you want to make a real difference to deserving young people, while working as part of a highly successful and supportive academy team, then this high profile opportunity could be for you.

Substantial & generous salary based on experience and expertise + Discretionary Performance Bonuses + Private Medical Insurance + Pension Scheme (TPS) + Relocation Allowance + Additional Harris Benefits

Why join the Harris Federation?

The Harris Federation is the leading large Multi Academy Trust in the country for primary and secondary education. We have built a proven track record in school improvement through rapid transformations, and we are at the forefront of developing a new generation of talented senior leaders.

Professional development and collaboration are key to our success, and we provide top quality training at every level from Beginner Teachers to Executive Leaders. We invest in our staff with coaching, mentoring, and a wide range of training programmes, delivered by our Teaching School Alliance. Two Harris academies hold Teaching School status and Harris also runs the highly successful London Thames Maths Hub, as well as working in partnership with a number of external organisations.

Harris is a Federation and not a chain; each academy is different, reflecting the particular aspirations and leadership style of its Principal. We are recognised for transforming the life chances of the children that we educate, and we have the capacity and track record to support your success as a Principal.

Our vision is that Harris academies work collaboratively in sharing school improvement strategies, and support one another as part of the wider Harris Federation. It is clear that our academies benefit from working collectively, which creates a powerful tool for raising standards.

We look for talented individuals who want to help transform education in London, and create exceptional places of learning. Informal conversations are welcomed and visits to our academies are highly encouraged.
