Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Ambleside Primary School, a larger than average 4 form entry primary Academy within the heart of the city of Nottingham.  There are 735 pupils on roll and a nursery located within the Foundation Unit caters for 78 part-time places in both morning and afternoon sessions.

Ambleside is a school full of potential – with a supportive senior leadership team, a conscientious and enthusiastic staff team who have great ambitions for the school and fantastic children who want to learn.

The school was categorised by Ofsted as a school in special measures in 2016 following a legacy of low achievement. The Trust was asked to formally sponsor the Academy following this judgement and Ambleside was welcomed into the Trust in 2018. The Trust comprises five diverse academies including special schools and PRU’s. The common thread that unites the academies is their unwavering inclusive beliefs and practice.

The school’s diverse population offers the opportunity for either an established headteacher ready for a new challenge or a successful deputy ready to make the next step. This is a key point in the school’s improvement journey and we want to appoint a Principal who has a strategic vision and who can work with stakeholders to move the school forward.  You must have successful leadership experience and strong interpersonal skills.  We are looking for an exceptional individual with twin ambitions.  Firstly, to set a sustainable improvement agenda that capitalises on the assets and capabilities within the school and wider Trust. Secondly, to work collaboratively with Principals within the Trust to embed its vision, harmonised policies, practices and share expertise, specialist knowledge and skills.

Wider opportunities may exist to support the Trust in its ambition to develop a primary arm to the estate in the longer term.

We would recommend that you see our school in action.  If you contact Rebecca Callaghan, HR Admin, by e-mail R.Callaghan@ambleside.nottingham.sch.uk or by telephone on 0115 900 3610, she will arrange for you to visit the school on either Friday 29 March, Monday 1 April or Tuesday 2 April 2019.  If none of these times are convenient, please do contact Rebecca and she will be able to organise an alternative date and time for you to visit.

In addition, to support your application the CEO Designate, Sean Kelly welcomes informal discussions with interested candidates about the Academy or the trust and he can be contacted through Rebecca on the number above.

Interviews are provisionally planned for Thursday 25 April and Friday 26 April 2019

The Raleigh Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this ethos and we will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment.  References will be taken up for those candidates short-listed for interview.  The successful candidate will be subject to DBS checks together with other required pre-employment checks.
