Applications are invited for the post of Principal of Padworth College with effect from 1 September 2018, consequent upon the retirement of the current Principal, John Aguilar. The Trustees are seeking an inspirational candidate who can build upon the considerable achievements of the current Principal over the last five years.   Padworth College is an independent, co-educational international boarding/day school for students between the ages of 13-19, situated in rural West Berkshire and within convenient distance of Reading. Established in 1963, currently 26 nationalities are represented, creating a rich and diverse cultural atmosphere. Padworth has a strong academic and pastoral record and most sixth form leavers go on to the universities of their choice.  We are seeking a warm, enthusiastic individual with a proven track record of successful leadership, who is culturally sensitive, internationally minded and who has the ability to inspire others and to promote the College.

Located in Reading, Berkshire, Padworth College is a co-educational independent senior school. First established in 1963, the school became co-educational in 2005. The school has around 100 pupils aged 14-19, making it far smaller than the average secondary school. Padworth College occupies an 18-acre site, and is mainly housed in an 18th Century manor house. Despite this, the school can boast of a wide range of modern, high-quality teaching and recreational facilities. The school primarily accepts boarding pupils, although a small number of day pupils are in attendance.

Padworth College seeks to provide a unique education for its pupils. The school has no uniform, with all staff members being referred to by their first names. The school is committed to providing students with the greatest amount of freedom possible within a work environment, encouraging pupils to be actively involved and guiding their educations, as well as take an intellectual curiosity in their studies. The school has a high number of international students, and provides strong support in ordered to help them develop their English-language skills and help them form a strong school community.

“The school is very successful in meeting its aims. The large majority of pupils are working in English as their second language and, as such, their achievements and learning are good. Pupils achieve good results in national examinations and make excellent progress overall. They benefit from a good curriculum, appropriate to their specific needs, although provision for physical education and sport is limited.”
