Mt Maria College Petrie is a co-educational Secondary College administered by the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane through the Brisbane Catholic Education Office and is a member of Marist Schools of Australia. It is located next to Our Lady of the Way school and Church in Petrie. The College was established by Brisbane Catholic Education in 1987 and was originally named “Kolbe College” after Saint Maximillian Kolbe. One of the main strengths of the College is the continual provision of Inclusive Education to its clientele. Central to our existence is the genuine concern for each student’s academic, spiritual and personal development. Promoting the Catholic faith, personal formation and building confidence and self-esteem are paramount within our College community. There is a strong sense of family atmosphere and a great support for our College Mission. The College is nestled on four hectares of gardens and bush-land setting. Mt Maria College Petrie offers a flexible curriculum to meet the educational needs of all students ranging from those with tertiary aspirations to those with specific educational needs.

Brisbane Catholic Education invites applications for the position of Principal with the capability to:

  • Lead the religious life of the school and build a vibrant Catholic identity within the school community;
  • Grow the engagement, progress, achievement and wellbeing of each student in the school; and
  • Build a sustainable school community, ensuring stewardship of resources with transparency, accountability and compliance.

Applicants for this role must meet the following essential eligibility criteria:

  • Be a committed, practicing Catholic, or in an ecumenical school a committed practising member of one of the faith traditions represented in that Ecumenical school;
  • Hold, or be eligible to hold, registration as a teacher in Queensland;
  • Have administrative and/or leadership experience. 

Preferred applicants will have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in religious education, theology or Christian leadership.
  • Experience in teaching, and leading the teaching of, religious education.
  • Experience as an Assistant Principal, Assistant Principal - Religious Education, Deputy Principal, Head of Campus or Principal, or a senior role providing support and leadership to Catholic schools, or equivalent experience.

Successful applicants who are new to principalship in Brisbane Catholic Education will be supported through a professional learning plan to be undertaken in the first two years of employment. For appointees who do not have Masters-level qualifications in Religious Education, Theology or Christian Leadership, the professional learning plan will include support to reach the equivalent of a Masters-level qualification.
