YOUR ROLE AT BELL BAXTER

The successful candidate for our new Principal Teacher of Support post will be a highly motivated individual who has a strong desire to support all young people to be included and engaged in their learning. This is a new post designed to support young people through Recovery post Lockdown and COVID to reengage in their learning, building confidence and stability that will strengthen their outcomes. The post-holder will work closely with all staff to plan programmes that will target the removal of any barriers to recovery, in particular around re-establishing strong, positive relationships with peers and with staff. They will plan and review impact around the principles of GIRFEC and inclusion, strengthening also the use of restorative practice across the school.

This post will line manage the PT 1 Support role. 

The Principal teacher of Support will be part of the wider Support team in Bell Baxter High School which comprises 5 guidance principal teachers, 1 principal teacher of additional support needs and 1 principal teacher of the department of additional support (DAS). They will be line managed by the DHT with strategic responsibility for Positive Behaviour and Relationships and will work in close partnership with the Support Team to strengthen relationships and inclusion across Faculties through mentoring and coaching both staff and young people. In so doing, they will build resilience in our school community post COVID and will build in our learners the foundations for positive destinations and successful, happy and fulfilled lives.

Main responsibilities in collaboration with the DHT for Positive Behaviour and Relationships

  • Plan, develop and implement Bell Baxter High School’s Strategic Plan for positive behaviour and relationships to improve learner outcomes
  • Develop the skills and confidence of educators in building positive relationships and a nurturing, inclusive learning environment
  • Embed restorative practices across the school
  • Support the collective understanding of inclusion and inclusive practice
  • Link into the school’s Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) programme

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To lead by example by consistently modelling behaviours reflective of shared school values
  • To strategically lead a team of staff by effectively mobilising, enabling and supporting them to develop and implement strategies to achieve change and improvement
  • To effectively manage the operational implementation and maintenance of practices and systems required to achieve improvement and change
  • To robustly evaluate evidence of current practice and outcomes leading to improvements for learners

WHOLE SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with the maintenance of whole school discipline including participation in the whole school duty rota and the supervision of pupils’ out-with timetabled classes to ensure good order within the school.

• Support the development of extra curricular activities and aspects of the wider life and work of the school.

• In collaboration with all colleagues, collectively responsible for Bell Baxter Learning Standard and Learning & Teaching Policy development and update. Responsible for the co-ordination and implementation L&T events and professional learning activities linked to the Standard/Policy.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Principal Teacher Pupil Support will be accountable to the link Depute Headteacher and ultimately to the Headteacher.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

Fife Council Education and Children’s Services is committed to a policy of staff development.   Staff will be expected to participate in training and learning events as appropriate to their professional needs and as provided and agreed by Education and Children’s Services

GENERAL

The post-holder will be expected to undertake such short-term duties as might reasonably be expected by the Headteacher and undertake the normal duties of a Principal Teacher as set out in Annex B of 'A Teaching Profession for the 21st Century.'
