Inspiring Learners, Changing Lives

The Brittons Academy is a great school in waiting. Pupils are polite, positive and friendly and arrive in Year 7 with a firm foundation for their future learning. The staff are purposeful, dedicated and caring. The community in which the Academy sits is vibrant and diverse. It is an 11-16 comprehensive academy in Rainham, London Borough of Havering.

You will be a current Principal, or an outstanding Deputy looking for your first Headship. You will have the strength of will and character to take the Academy to the next level and beyond. You will share ELAT’s values of:  Passion; Respect; Inclusion; Challenge and Openness.

The Brittons Academy became part of the Empower Learning Academy Trust (ELAT) in September 2016 and the Trust has been working with the leadership team to bring about improvement.  In May 2017, Ofsted recognised that the Academy was making progress on its improvement journey, but rightly concluded that there was not quite sufficient evidence at that time to upgrade the Academy from ‘Requires Improvement’.

ELAT is a small, local trust with strong values. We believe that teaching really can be transformational for students’ lives. Our Teaching School and our focussed school improvement support show that we ‘walk the talk’. The Principal will benefit from the support of our CEO, who is a National Leader of Education.

Values and vision

The Brittons Academy has an ethos of high expectations and high aspirations. It believes every child has the right to learn.

The secondary school believes its moral responsibility is to make a difference to the life chances of every student. It aims to do the following: to achieve excellent qualifications for each student; to unlock each individual’s potential; to help each student become a valued citizen; to support each pupil to develop a healthy lifestyle, as well as the skills and attributes for life-long learning.

Ofsted report

“Since the previous inspection, the Principal and senior leaders have concentrated successfully on raising achievement and improving the quality of teaching and students’ behaviour. Their work is bringing about significant improvements across the academy. The recently restructured governing body is much better informed and is providing more rigorous challenge. It is making positive contributions to improving the quality of leadership and teaching.”
